Recording video in ED

What software do you use for recording video whilst playing the game? I just got a new machine that runs the game well and would like to make some video.

I either use the built in Windows 10 video recorder or, if am planning a lot of capturing, I use Mirillis Action.

I was using PlayClaw 5 but it crashes Horizons so i'm using Shadowplay at the moment although it causes a much larger performance hit than Playclaw does., :(

If you're looking for something simple and efficient, give D3DGear a try. If you need a lot more options for tweaking your recording, DXTORY is really good. I use a combination of both for my projects. Good luck, and hit me up if you have more specific questions :)

I've used MSI Afterburner in the past but can't make it work with my sound setup now. It also delivers black screens. I now use Nvidia Shadowplay - still no working sound channel, but it delivers video at least. Make sure you have a decent hard drive with lots of free space.

If you have a recent Nvidia graphics card I would recommend Shadowplay. It comes with the free GForce Experience app, is easy to use and works very well.

Must be something wierd about your setup, I have no problems with sound in Shadowplay.

I used to use FRAPS. Excellent tool, but resulted in large video files that I had to convert with TEncoder Video Converter (Freeware) to a compatible MP4 that could be recognized by Windows Movie Maker (also free). If you are on a budget though, this is the way to go. FRAPS was $8 (I think) to register for the full version. Could also take screenshots with it and time lapse.

I've since upgraded my video card to an NVIDIA and that comes with Shadowplay. Smaller video files and directly compatible with Windows Movie Maker, although as I do so many projects now I invested in CyberLink PowerDirector 14 for editing.

The link to my YouTube channel is below. I have over 60 vids. Take a look at my Game Glimpse series as it showcases what you can do with even a basic editor.

Maybe old version of FRAPS because I use FRAPS now, and while the initial files are massive, I fire up Movie Maker, do my editting, and then save-as movie type Youtube and it is manageable, and didnt have to reformat the files first or anything. Examples are in the link to my sig below.

Using the AMD Driver's supplied "Raptr" application when needed. Works fine and has all I need to record raw footage (no editing).

Amd driver\raptr integrates plays.tv software and works exceptionally well in my experience. In addition to a session recording, you can include voice and short action clips (saves time on editing) ..off which. I happen to use vegas.

See this thread for no sound fixes with Shadowplay.

Shadowplay is good. Also I've just started using BandiCam which is very fast and efficient.
True, but you need a decent machine with Bandicam as it compresses video on the fly thus using additional overhead.
