Recreating the Frontier: Elite 2 Intro in ED

Looking forward to the day I can hook up with a couple of friends and 'film' this. Can see it being a bit of fun :)

Got the Eagle and the Orbis station. If I remember rightly you need:

  • Planetary landings expansion (this is a big one)
  • Long range cruiser (perhaps you could substitute one of the capital ships)
  • Imperial Courier (or a similar Imperial ship)
  • 2 pilots willing to die for art

Sounds about right to me. Add in of course a couple of reasonably powerful desktop machines to record it in high def, and the appropriate soundtrack :D

Oh that brings back memories...

I wonder how many people are going to be doing flypasts through the rings of the new station come tuesday!!!

EDIT: I will happily be volunteer number 2.

Wow thanks for posting this DangerMouse. I was SO addicted to Frontier on the Amiga. I was a major software pirate in the day and Frontier was the first game I ever BOUGHT because I felt it was actually worth the asking price. (Don't ask me where I got my copy of Elite from, ok? :) )

I knew logically that the gfx were primitive compared to today's almost photo-realistic gfx but I was shocked to see just how primitive they really were back then because, at the time, Frontier looked almost the same as today's E:D in my imagination... which is where the best bits of game play really happen and which is why the Elite franchise has been so successful and is still so loved by so many 28 years later.

I spent a bit of time playing the OpenGL port of the AtariST version of Frontier on my PC whilst waiting for the Premium Beta to open. It brought back a few fond memories, but I didn't stick with it long. That intro is still fantastic though. I find myself humming the tune every time I start Elite Dangerous up! :)

Ahh, how I loved my Imperial Courier. Many Federation scum had "accidents" thanks to my Courier. Great ship, lots of cargo space left even after you had armed it to the teeth.

Thanks for the memories OP and for the record I would also sacrifice my Eagle for the sake of a remake.

Hey, thanks Splendour for linking to my rearrangement - it's given me a few hits!
If anyone wants to use my version of the old Elite II music for a remake of the video just let me know. :)

Might well take you up on that jamieboo - although unfortunately we need to wait for the content and engine stuff before we can work on it!
