Red Dead Redemption?

Has anyone played Red Dead Redemption?

I see it is rated as '18' but I know these ratings seem a little OTT in the real world. My son is about to turn 16 so I just wanted an opinion as to whether it is okay or not for someone of this age?

He has found it with 60% off https://www.pricedropdonkey.com/cheap-entertainment/computer-video-games-deals which seems a good deal but I would welcome any other recommendations on Xbox 360 games at around the £20 point that are shooter style games.

His birthday is on the 10th so I have to decide this week really.

i would never recommend something to be suitable for some one else's child.
Only you would know what they are mostly like.
I have 2 girls, and they are vastly different. what would be appropriate for one would not be for the other "even if they were the same age"
Also my sisters children, they are noting at all like my eldest or what I or my sister were like at that age, and i would have to imagine no game with any sort of age rating would be suitable for them even though one of them is old enough to watch some age restricted movies or play the games. (a bit of a sheltered up bringing)

So id have to imagine that only you would know the answer to that question.. perhaps watch some you tube videos.

because if we take the simpsons as an example, what bart would be unaffected by would traumatize rod and tod for life.

I used to have RDR on the PS3, I'm suprised it has an 18 cert.

There may be some bad language in some of the cut scenes, but I always thought the game was quite 'family friendly' in that respect.

what a fantastic game too! :)

Really, really good game. I really enjoyed it and played it until the end. Not something I have a lot of an attention span these days. I do not think it is overly violent. No more than any other game really. I have played worse.

Excellent game, but it probably deserves the 18 certificate for language. It has all of the Class A swears, including the dreaded one that starts with "c".

My 16 year old son plays, and loves, it (so do I!).

I played it and I absolutely loved every second of it! One of the best games on the previous generation. Period. Not as rough and bad as GTA fortunately. Yes people swear in the game. So what? You kill people. That should be worse lol.
There are prostitutes here and there but I don't think you could actually buy from them as the main character is married and use that quite often as an excuse for all kinds of things.
Gambling is present and it works OK.


Overall it's a fabulous game with fantastic voice acting. Graphics are good considered its 5 years old now.

Just to add my 2-penneth - it's a great game - if you can get the game of the year edition (I think) as it includes the zombie variant too.

I don't remember finding it overly dark/nasty.

I played it as hunter game. Instead fast travel I travel a lot and hunt. Got trophy of getting all the types of beast or birds

Great game. Tbh there is swearing in the cut scenes but nothing a 16 year old won't hear elsewhere.
The c-bomb was dropped only once I can remember, when it came out was well into the story and IMO unnecessary at that point.
If he enjoys a spaghetti western film, he'll enjoy this.
