Red Dwarf will not Surface Scan

Tried getting as close as I could but detail surface scanner never came on. Everything around it scanned great. Left it still saying unexplored. What should I do?

Try rotating the target off-centre and see if there is a mismatch between where the target-lenticular (visible object) and the scanner thinks the object is.

I have not seen this with a star - but I have seen it a number of times with astroids around distant members of a binary+ system. The behavious is as-if the position of the object is different for display/targetting and for scanning.

Rotating the target lenticular off-centre can find the "scan" spot, else fly around and approach from another direction.

Suggests that there is an error related to the distance from the central star, or to the time since the original "honk". It doesn't happen often though - about three times in 250+ systems?

It's possible it could be a server mismatch error, as scanning an object in the game involves a lot of toing and froing from client to server. It's happened to me a few times back in Gamma when I returned to Civilisation from the core, and a few distinctive planets didn't appear on the system map.

We could get a group together and go rough it up a bit until it lets one of us scan it. It's been awhile since I've been in a mob.

I think it's safe to move on. You'll find several hundreds of billions more of those

Thanks for all the response's. Another question - I have a type c1 surface scanner in a Cobra. Are there b and a surface scanners?
