Red Sand as Paintable Terrain Texture in all Land Types

It would be nice to have a red sand Western/Desert themed area in the tropical park setting. Is anyone else wishing for this?

The Devs gave a reason why they couldn't do this as of Alpha 3. Something about having only so many texture layers because of performance and how they blend. So each biome only has 9 slots for textures. I'll try to find the thread...

This didn't link the source, but it was from Andy C

Thanks for the link. I guess I will try to wrap my head around regular dirt instead of read dirt. Wow I have some serious problems in my life!

It stinks though. I have repeatedly worked in the desert biome and wanted the black/dark brown rock texture, and then am reminded again that I can't have it. [mad]

We'll see if this changes in Beta.

I find this limitation very frustrating, not even so much for myself, but for the more experienced players who make the best creations so that I can enjoy their stunning work at its fullest! I hope they can find some sort of work around (as we have discussed in other threads) because this makes certain details difficult to accomplish, like having a variety of themes.

Not being able to mix biomes limits the variety of themes in the park that can really be made because in my opinion it is not just scenery and buildings, but the very environment that makes a beautifully themed area.

True, most park havd differen terrain textures. It's rather annoying. I would rather have just 9 texture then those biome restriction. (snow, red sand, grass, grey rockish, dark rokish, sand, soil, muddy grass and pebble) I seriously feel it's a huge step back that we can't have different area in our park. Not to mention, in real life, park don't theme according to the biome they are located.

Painting ground textures in games have been around for years. Multiple textures can be used in a game like Trainz since around 2004. From grass, dirt, snow, gravel, rocks, concrete... it's all able to be in the game. I'd think if planet coaster has gone to this much effort with everything else doing multiple textures should be one of them. If a game then can do it a game in 2017 should have no issues either.

I really, *really* hope they just let all the textures be used in any biome, I don't care if the terrain would shape incorrectly bla bla bla, but how wil you ever make a believable multi themed park when all you have is dirt sand and dark stone.

From what I understand, it's got something to do with the voxel system. I'm guessing the game has to consider all the terrain from all angles, including underneath when calculating. So I can totally see why not limiting the amount of textures would be a processing nightmare.

I know that if we paint the terrain and then re-sculpt, it reverts to it's original texture. So could this be a solution?
Why not have a selection of textures in all biomes that are purely paintable, (is that even a word)? There's quite a few textures in the dessert biome, for example, so I'm not suggesting all of them should be available in all environments. But if we had a good selection in all parks that we could just paint on, it would be enough for me. Yes it would be inconvenient that you may take some time painting the ground and then have it revert to the default textures as soon as you need to edit that bit of ground, but it wouldn't be that bad. I'd be more than happy with this.
I have no clue how practical this would be though.

As I said before, we are very limited by not being able to have a mixture of biomes in the same park, think of classic Disneyland with Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tommorowland, and Adventureland; four different themed areas in the same park with different biomes.
