Newcomer / Intro red skulls (pirates?)

just starting out with missions, good so far. Landed on an outpost it has red skulls rotating around a tower? What do they signify?

No need for panic (I did the first time I landed at one, thought my ship would be stolen!).
Just means the outpost is not allied with anyone, so is independent. Usually a good place to find a black market.

Yeah that's what i thought also, that i was going to be blasted. Thanks for the reply and insight on the black market.

I have no idea how I got it but I have the red skull as a paint on decal. Maybe it was a kick starter thing?

The NPCs sullenly refused to back the game on Kickstarter. Meanies.

The skull decal was part of the Mercenary Edition that you as a Kickstarter got automatically.

Pirate outposts were planned but haven't been properly implemented in the game (yet - if ever) . I've seen empire and fed aligned stations with the pirate emblem.
