Red Warning /!\ Triangle in HUD

I'm sure this has been asked (and answered) before, and the answer is probably so obvious its embarrassing.

but having searched for multiple combinations of "Red/Warning/Triangle/Exclamation" and coming up blank I'm just going to have to ask.

Just to the left of the System Information HUD (Top Right Panel) a red warning triangle with an exclamation mark inside will sometimes appear and I cant attach it to any particular event occurring with my ship.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Had the same thing too, even during non-aggression. Maybe it indicates that your connection is slow/lossy?

I've had these randomly since beta 2, but usually they come with a random message like "shields offline" (when they aren't) or "atmosphere restored".

If it's a small one in the upper right, that means there is a hostile nearby, sometimes RIGHT outside your sensor range.

It means that you are trying to use more power than you have available. Turn off your k warrant scanner or something else and the triangle will go away. If you look under the modules tab on the right hand menu, you will see a bar at the bottom which represents 100% power. You will also see another bar that represents how much power you are asking your ship to deliver. If it is over 100%, something is not getting power and you get the red triangle.

I personally think should be higher up and a little smaller, at the moment its too big an becomes an annoyance.

It is a warning message for a number of situations, not just power level, damaged components, enemy in proximity, docking without permission; it pops up when anything needs attention.
