RedAlert!!!

Any chance of putting this into game so you can set your ship to Red Alert, Yellow Alert or normal alert?. Just thought it be a nice touch.

If you went by star trek rules condition green implies lowering your shields. I don't think anyone's doing that in Elite, or willing to fly around at constant yellow alert. But we already have flashing red lights and alert messages when we're being shot at.

Maybe red alert does four pips to shields.

Green would be four pips to engines.

All you have to do is put on a computer voice and go - "Reed Alert! Reed Alert..."

I would love this, but only on the bigger ships. No need to put red alert on a two seater or less.

Actually you can shut down shields and shut them up while needed but I don't see the purpose in a game like that... There is no treat reaction over the presence of the shields... In Star Trek instead the Shields means aggressive behaviour.

Aren't alerts like that generally only used in large ships of battle so they can inform the crew? Seeing that we are one man crews, I think we can figure out pretty fast what is going on.

"Regulations state that when communication has not been established..."
"Lieutenant, I think the admiral is aware of the regulations."

for what do you need a alert status when you are the only one on the ship? chances are high that, when you are the one setting a red alert that you already know that you are on red alert..

I'd like to see an alert klaxon when you deploy hardpoints in the Anaconda at least, since it is a large multi-crew ship and everyone belowdecks (in zero-G, remember) would very much want to know when the ship is about to start flipping end to end and being shot at.
This would be nice too, for comms chatter when we have NPC crew:
