Refinery Full message when mining

Hello everyone,

I'm guessing that most everyone who has mined with the biggest refinery (and maybe other sizes) has probably seen the message "Refinery Full" many times. The problem for me is that when I get it, my 10 bin refinery is not full. Some times as many as half the bins are still empty when the message occurs. Some say that it is because the message is delayed.

I've read several threads in this forum, on Reddit and on Steam which mention this. What I've not found yet is good suggestions to lessen or eliminate the occurrence of this message.

I definitely don't fully understand the extent or nature of this yet. Is it part of a long standing bug and I should just ignore it or are there things I can do? When this happens, am i losing fragments or parts of them?

If anyone with more experience mining could help me understand a little more what's going on and what I should do when this happens, I would appreciate it. If there is a thread on this subject, which you think explains this, please post a link. I may have missed it. More recent threads and more recent experience is more valuable because I have the feeling this has changed over time.

Thanks

I was afraid that was going to be the answer.

It seems like it would not be a huge job to make sure this message only happens when all bays are full and does not overshadow other messages when it occurs.

I just hope that I'm not loosing painite fragment when this happens. ;)

Thanks

I have had this many times being an avid miner. From what I can gather every chip off the ol asteroid that your limpets deliver to your cargo hatch is recorded (by the server?) and if there is an issue with the server/you internet connection then this communication is delayed and limpets cease delivery. Why it says "refinery full" and not something more relevant is beyond me. I sometimes get disconnected from the server soon after this happens on very, very rare occasions. What really winds me up is when this happens with 30/40 chips of 20/30% Painite floating in front of me and slowly degrading down to nothing. I wish they would double or triple the lifespan of those chips.

I know how to do both lessen and eliminate this message, but you won't like the answer:

Mine less, or quit mining and find something else to do.

It's an Elite: Bug, and has been for as long as I can remember. Fortunately it's only annoying and doesn't actually impact anything.
I've learned to just ignore it.

Sorry about this Necro guys, but i'm having this refinery full message a LOT. What should i do when the limpets stop collecting even when there's ores waiting to be collected?

Didn't an identical thread come across the board a day or two ago?

Anyway, the issue is that the code does not accurately track what is in your refinery bins or cargo hold under high-transaction situations. This is primarily seen when mining with lots of collector limpets running. This is NOT a new bug. It has been formally reported MANY times (once by me several releases ago).

The "cure" to the problem is simply to re-log. Once you come back into the game you will magically see all the stuff that has been invisibly clogging up your refinery or cargo hold (or both). Of course, this will also invite the invariable visit by local pirates in mining areas, so if you are not prepared to fight off the local scrub, then you should consider flying to a safe isolated area before re-logging.

FDEV has no excuse to NOT be aware of this bug (assuming they have been reading their own bug report forum). However, its pretty obvious that they had rather spend their time painting facial hair on holo-me rather than addressing well known and well documented bugs. Even the "work around" to this issue (re-logging) is fairly well known by the player base...

This is just another indication that the underlying code base is likely so much of a shamble that no one wants to relearn/revisit the "logic" to try and fix it. Its much easier to paint new party hats on avatars than fix old broken code...

I've learned to just ignore it.

Its NOT only annoying, it DOES impact your ability to mine anything further, and you CANT just ignore it. You have to re-log if you want to continue mining! (...and then fight off, and win, the inevitable Pirate visit)

I guarantee, if you have this happen (limpets stop running even though you show one of more empty bins on your refinery), if you re-log you will see stuff in your bins and/or cargo hold you never knew was there. It gets so bad that even flushing the entire refinery won't help. Everything just locks up until you re-log...

I'm such a useless combat pilot, that I take a rebuy off the pie rats.
I aint reloggin for no damn good reason.

Well, if stuff stops working because of a bug - then thats a pretty good reason...

...and I'm talking about a graceful exit (exit the game and log back in) not pulling the network cable or killing the process...

You calling me a CLogger?

Outside.
Right now.

Where are ya?

Seriously - you take that back or weapons deployed right now.

I think it is when you have a % in a bin, then the next fragment pushes it over 100% so the refinery is refining and the remaining % is queued and another fragment comes in so it thinks it is "full" as you have stuff in the bin being processed, and the hopper full as well and a fragment ready for the hopper, but only for the time it takes the bin to be refined into the cargo bay.

I've had it happen a bunch of times and quite often more than 1 bin ends up with mystery meat in it and sometimes the cargo hold as well. (Of course the "mystery" stuff in the cargo hold could simply be stuff pushing through the refinery immediately on relog).

In any case, i'ld rather have this kind of crap fixed than wasting time on a new pimple for my hoho-me.... But, who am I (other than a paying customer)?
