Reflective Shields

Simple concept for defensive shields for transport ships primarily. With reflective shields equipped, if you take 50MJ of shield damage, the ship that fired takes 25MJ damage to their shields.

...and discuss.

-1 Incredibly bad idea.

You had that as a punishment in FPS if you hit your partner, and you was damage really badly pretty fastly...

That's pretty stupid because then a ship with smaller shield will defeat itself by hitting you and you would become unbeatable.

And you would defeat anybody 25% faster as you would defeat your opponent almost as much as he would defeat itself.

But there could be an idea in there : Reflective shield bounce back thermal weapons in 45/90° direction, hitting everything around. It would take less damage than normal shield but could make a lot of ennemies around you... That would be more fun !

It should be then be an engineered shield.

Potentially, with that shield, a smaller ship could do more damage to a larger one, by reflecting the larger ships weapons back on itself, than the smaller ship could do by shooting it owns weapons. I don't mind the idea of it bouncing away in a random direction, so anyone could be hit... that sounds fun :)

there is a reason why permanent "thorns" effects are usually avoided or lowered in twitch based PVP games.

though... i loved pvp matches between two guardian class player in tabula rasa. ping-pong damage
but there wasn't any assets at risk

i could also imagine,
that "mirror bulkheads", which are currently totally useless and overpriced, would deflect lasers at flat angle hits without any damage dealt.

Indeed it could be really fun, but only with side effects like random laser projection.

It could be a really usefull shield as a weapon but also making side effect around you, like making everybody around your enemy.
