Regarding first discovered by...

It has probably been asked before but:

If I find a system that has not been discovered and I scan/map the entire thing then move on my way further out and then another commander finds that system scan/maps it but he heads back to hand the data in is he the first to discover it?

Or do I get it when I hand it in as technically I was first there and first to map/scan it.

It is probably the first to hand the data in right? But shouldn't it be first to find it?

First one that turns it in gets the reward.

It should be the first that turn it in. It should not be a real problem. Last I heard we only explored. .006 of the galaxy.

Here a trick I do to get the majority of my scans. I offset my course 1000 ly if I heading to a major location.

Yes.
That's why I don't get why those deep space explorers stay out a year or so :D
Yesterday I found a sweet system with 4 terraformables, and I'm already anxious someone is snatching it away from me :D

Well, when we are dealing with 99.994% unexplored I not too worried about losing 20 Planets out 10,000 systems.

But then who will know that it was you?
It was I who first discovered the Great Pyramid secret - the tomb of Tut Ankh Amon. But that weasel Howard Carter announced it before I did...

You get credit not for discovery BUT for reporting it. So when you find something worth of tagging - it's not yours till you sell that data.
