Regor sector?

So, I'm slowly working my way back into populated space..... OK maybe not so slowly.... anyways, I'm working my way back in and came across the Regor Sector systems. All of them are permit only. What's up with that?!? Are the Thargoids coming in from that sector?!? Seriously, I am curious as to why all those systems are permit only. By the way, what happens if you go into a permit only system without a permit?

You are the new star of the Explorer's forum. Great to have someone to answer questions like this too, it's been a while!

Nobody really knows why some sectors are permit only, been that way since the game started. And you can't go to a permit system - the FSD won't let you and simply supercruising to it doesn't generate it at all.

Well...

Yeah, I did a bit of searching and found that the First Great Expedition went out and mapped out the area. They were told (or are just assuming) that it and other areas like it are for future expansions.

I'm just really curious on what they are going to do with those areas....

Hopefully introduce some aliens or some backwards techno-barbarians or the like for us to... interact... with. With lasers! And death!

How much distance is between civilized space and the Regor sector? We might be able to organize some right and proper Viking expeditions when it becomes open.

David Braben said in an interview that there are some locked out areas that are basically reserved for future content, and even Frontier doesn't necessarily know what they'll put there. This was an old interview so it's possible they actually have a more defined plan by now, but until it gets released we can only speculate.

The mapping project by the FGE determined that the locked off area is generally spherical. Interesting point is that Gamma Velorum (Regor) isn't actually the centre of the sector.

Go read up about how Regor got it's name and you'll see where I got the star name from. :)

I did not know this!!! Must still be half noob.

Where is the Regor Sector ? It definitely sounds kind of Thargoidy to me, and should be watched closely... from a safe distance.

Regor is only about 1000 LY east of colonised space. Other permit sectors include Bovomit on the SW outer rim, Hyponia some 20,000 LY to the west of the core, some other sector in the NW of the galaxy and a couple of others. There's a file containing the full list in the game assets if you really want to look them all up.

If the line from Sol to SagA* is North and out to the rim is South, the Regor Sector is about 1000ly ESE.

Permit sectors that are ~30LKY away ??? Wow. FD must be either expecting more from casual explorers, or we can possibly hope for faster methods of travel in the future! Very interesting. Thanks, Allitnil :)

Ninja thanks to Zenith as well!
