Reid Park Zoo

I'm thrilled to finally announce Reid Park Zoo!
"A Heavy Work In Progress!!!"
The Reid Park Zoo, founded in 1967, is a 24-acre city-owned and operated non-profit zoo located within Reid Park in Tucson, Arizona. The zoo features more than 500 animals. It was unofficially established in 1965 by Gene Reid, the parks and recreation director at the time.

Progress so far is the main entrance, gift shops, restaurant, and the main plaza.

I don't know if it's intended but I really like the concrete look of the zoo so far! It's like it was built out of a building that used to be there and is repurposed for a zoo. It also goes well for an older zoo like you mentioned but the aforementioned thought popped in my head first. A very cool idea so far! Can't wait to see the progress!

This is a Reid Park Zoo starter map for those frequent local guests that know the zoo well and want to make a better version for me. You are welcome to alter this zoo in any way to make it a more realistic version of the zoo. I plan on continuing making my own version, but I've never been there so it's a huge challenge and undertaking for me. So...if you can make a better version of it and up to the challenge I would be totally grateful! Thank you! :)

Next you get to literally be above the American Alligators as they swim underneath you. You also get a nice view of there habitat which they call home.
"Deleted mod pic by request of moderators "
You have come upon our last habitats that were just finished. More planting and lighting continues in the surrounding area.
20210523195527_1.jpg

The first animal in front of you that you come upon is the Aldabra Tortoise and Indian Peacock.
20210523210228_1.jpg

As you turn left we come upon the Common Ostrich and Plains Zebra habitat which has a nice overview of there entire habitat.
20210523210511_1.jpg

Lastly on the right side you get an overview of our magnifecent African Southern White Rhinos. We wanted to get them a big area that provides all there needs as if they were in the Africa Savannah.
As you leave the area there are more opportunities to view the Rhino's new home as you continue heading to our other habitats.

We all can't wait to see you when the zoo is finished and finally open!

Reid Park Zoo is Back in Business!!!

So before update 1.6 we were told to delete our mods in the ovl. folder and I did that, but didn't realise I was supposed to delete them in my zoo. That made my zoo crash after the update causing me to lose most of my work on Reid Park Zoo and losing some progress on my Phoenix Zoo.

Today I updated my flamingo pack to 1.6, re-added the staff sign mod, and for some reason it's working again. Didn't even need to re-add the White Rhino, American Alligator, and Nubian Goat mod. I'm so overjoyed right now! :D

So with Reid Park Zoo being back in bussiness I have been working on the zoo the past 2 weeks and the zoo is slowly coming together. Just note that this zoo is based on Reid Park zoo, but won't be an exact replica. It's Reid Park zoo, but with my own flare to it to make it my own. I might go back to certain parts of the zoo someday and redo things more accuratley, but no promises/guarrantees.

Anyways...I've worked on the Meerkat and the Otter exhibits and must say I mostly love the way it turned out. It's definitely not accurate to the real zoos counterpart after looking on Google Earth, but I'm happy with it for now. Note: "These pics are not the final product!"

Grizzly Bears are now on display at Reid Park Zoo!!! 😱 🐻
The Grizzly Crossing exhibit includes a stream, a grassy area, indoor/air conditioned area, and a large pool.

Ronan and Finley were brought to the zoo from Montana in July, when they were 18 months old, after being deemed dangerous in a residential area for raiding chicken coops, breaking into barns for grain and eating from garbage cans, behaviors they learned from their mother. The bears were first relocated, but they returned to the area and resumed their behaviors, and their mother was eventually euthanized. Later, Montana wildlife officials notified the Tuscon zoo that the cubs were available, the zoo eagerly agreed to help rescue them. They had been through a lot; they were not in great shape, with one had foot injuries and bite marks. They really had a rough start to life.
So far in Tucson, the bears have worked with keepers to adjust to zoo life, which includes learning how to go through doors to get into their enclosure and getting used to new sights and sounds. They also had to get used to being real close to humans. We continue to work with them and are making huge progress!
