recently had to reinstall ED, updated, says everything is ok, but when I log in, everyplace there should be print, ex: continue, options, etc, there is nothing. with the mouseover, i can hear where they should be, but even when I get to cockpit view, no print at ll. any help appreciated

If you orginally purchased via steam, try right clicking on the game in the games list, select properties then the local files tab. Select "Verify integrity of game files".
It might help (has done for me before when I had some weird stuff happening). It takes a few minutes to run.
If you didn't get it via steam then perhaps check that a similar option doesn't exist somewhere.
Edit: I just had a look, if you click on options on the launcher and select "validate game files"

reinstalled again, made sure files updated, then validated the files, every time I run validate, takes about 25 minutes, even when I just ran it., and no change
sfc /scannow found some files, but didnt help in ED, other games are showing ok, so must be something in the ED install.
the problem is any ui panels are gone, no matter what screen I am at, ex: panels to choose, open/solo, the continue at the beginning screen, and all panels in the cockpit
reinstall the latest graphic card driver using its clean install function if nvidia don't install GeForce experience or uninstall it afterwards seperatley via windows control panel programs manager
then use the game launcher options tab log off machine function and close
reboot machine and restart the game
otherwise can you give screenshot of what you see? (drag screenshots to imigur get share links and use the bb code that's given in your post) https://imgur.com/
you haven't switched off your hud have you hold left cntrl and alt together then press g

graphics have up to date drivers, (old graphics) but were works fine on any other game I play. what I see is a dark background of every area, in ship, just the background showing the cockpit, no panels at alll. can pull up where they should be, but nothing is there. something when I go to the beginning screen, cannot see any panels, just a dark blurry background.. have uninstalled/reinstalled, looked at the graphics settings, nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. Am trying to d/l to wife's computer, and will see if it plays, if so, will then check all files i can to see what is different from mine.

tried using ed profiler to see settings, says Im missing custom.fxcfg file, and settings file from options/graphics folder, have no idea where to find them, cant locate on internet

right ok software installed correctly it seems as the game is actually running so no amount of re downloading will fix
but you can run a file validation if you wish via game launcher options tab just to reconfirm that it takes us back to this dim graphical state of what is currently being displayed
from initial view it is extremely dark it would appear that the gammer setting(or brightness level) is way to low so we know the problem is graphical in nature
if this cant be turned up via in game options graphic settings (I am already presuming it cant as the default level should be way brighter than what we are currently seeing)
then its almost certainly a driver\hardware related issue (as the game is instructing the graphics card and display to effectively get brighter which its not doing so why?)
I presume game sound is normal another key indicator that game is running as intended (only what we see is not correct)
( at this point I am already presuming its under min spec or not being utilized in full for some reason(we'll find out why)
which leads me to my next question what graphics card are you using make and model?

intell 4000, had everything on lowest settings, ran ok, till a couple days ago
computer overheated and shut down, couldnt get it to restart even after waiting a few hrs to cool down, ended up doing a reset. after the install, what you see is what I got. prob end up quiting for the time being, maybe get another computer some day. This is a laptop.
ya faulty hardware and bellow min spec not really designed to run this game which after updates requires even more demand from gpu
