Reinstall question

I originally bought ED direct from Frontier an option that no longer appears to be available. I tried pre-ordering Odyssey from Steam but despite linking my copy of ED in the games launcher, Steam won't let me buy the pre-order because I don't own ED on Steam. I have the free copy from Epic and have just bought the pre-order from Epic as well. My Frontier copy is on my C drive which is rapidly running out of space so the plan is to install ED on another drive (the one Epic is currently on) and login to my Frontier account from there. Will that work? Do I just need to backup my local save games etc or is there anything else I'd need to do. Appreciate any advice

if you purcahsed ED from frontier then youll probably need to buy odessy from frontier here https://www.frontierstore.net/, makesure you logon to your current account first before purchasing

you could try linking your account to steam but im not sure thatll do anything more than give you access to ED via your steam library

if all your doing is moving the non steam install of ED from disk > disk then you dont really need to do anything other copy\cut and paste from A>B than update your shortcuts, if theres any issues run a force verify but i never had issues. as you will still be using the same windows install theres nothing else that will require backing-up or moving.. also ED has no local save game, everything gets stored on the game servers

I uninstalled the game via the launcher, then uninstalled the launcher. I downloaded and reinstalled the launcher on the new drive but as soon as I tried to install the game it installed it back in the default location. I can't see any option to select the install path. Any ideas what I'm missing?

IF you actually bought ED from Frontier, then it should be present for download again and as often as you wish along with any other item(s) you purchased from Frontier, via your Frontier "My Account" page located on the top of the Frontier launcher. IF you bought it from steam or other site, why would you think it would be on the Frontier's launcher via "My Account'.

I bought it from Frontier, the issue is not the download, it is the fact that it installs by default to my C drive and I'm asking if there is a way to change the install path.

if youve downloaded the ED installer from frontier ie as advised by Strontium dog - also by logging into your account here https://www.frontierstore.net - go to your account dashboard (click the person icon) then select downloadable products -

when installing with the frontier installer it will ask where you want to install ED to, once you have accepted the license agreement you can change the install location by either clicking browse or manually changing the install path

Nope wasn't given any option to choose install path. After multiple uninstalls launcher defaults to c drive. Tried copying products folder to new drive but game exe looks for launcher

Odd. When I run the installer I get a chance to select the installation folder. Here's a screenshot of it. Do you not get this?

that's because a small amount of files has to go to the os drive your control bindings ect which are kb filesize

The game is always installed in the "Products" sub-folder of the Launcher.
So if you want to install it on a different drive - install the launcher there and install the game.

This. I recently installed elite on a new PC and put it on my 2nd M.2 drive (D) and then when you run the launcher and install the game it goes into a sub folder on that drive.

I previously had ED installed on my C drive but since Odyssey dropped the install size has gone up to 75gb and I can't install it on my C drive due to no space. I have reinstalled the launcher fine on D but cannot install on D. Help?

Yesterday i found another option in the installer - you can actually choose where to install your game before the installation.
Open the launcher, select the game you wish to install, then click on "Options", choose "Select installation directory" and install.

Rather than reinstall it on a HDD, wouldn't it be more prudent to move something else thus free up room on your SSD. Or, purchase a larger SSD thus having two. I did just that, now I've got a 1 terra byte and an 250 gig to work with and no longer need an HDD.
But then, I don't save things that I haven't utilized in months and month; Such as movies, music and games I no longer play.
