Relabel Landing Pads for Large Stations

The first image isn't quite right. Pads 1 and 13 should have their positions swapped, pads 31-34 should be in the opposite order from front to back, and pads 16-30 should come before pads 31-45 when going clockwise. That said, the first image being incorrect should highlight the reason why the proposed pad numbering system would be useful.

If I asked you where pads 13, 22, and 34 were, would you be able to tell me EXACTLY where they were? You probably wouldn't be able to without looking at a station layout diagram.

Now, what if I asked you where pads C09, C11, and E02 were? Obviously C09 and C11 are in the third row at the 9 and 11 o'clock positions (respectively) and E02 is in the fifth row at the 2 o'clock position. That wasn't nearly as hard as finding 13, 22, and 34.

Overall, I very much approve of something like this, I'm just not sure if the amount of dev work required to do this would justify the benefit. Maybe if we see a full-blown docking rework with improved docking UI. Still, +1 from me.

Rather than making it uniform, why not make it faction-specific? Make it so some factions prefer the arrangement we currently have, others might have some kind of order like you suggested by combining numbers and letters, others might have a similar system but entirely numerical, others might have the letter following the number instead of preceding it, others might number/letter them based on size, others follow some kind of helical numbering system, a few might even adopt an entirely alphabetical system, anarchistic factions might enjoy a literally random arrangement just because they want to watch the world burn (bonus points if the arrangement changes whenever the server updates). If the voices have been recorded for it, others might throw caution to the wind and include Greek letters into the mix, while some authoritarian/militaristic factions might label their pads by port/starboard/dorsal/ventral positioning.

While we are at it, make it so some stations have ships entering on the left, while others enter on the right, much like how IRL different countries drive on different sides of the road.

This would be great!

I never have any idea where a landing pad is in relation to the rest of the station, aside from the very minor aid of the 'ship compass' thing.

Your ideas here would make it a lot easier.

Wow. You really want to watch the world burn don't you?

As immersive as this would be, from a gameplay perspective it would be rather infuriating.

I don't think FDev would want to add a feature that gives players brain aneurysms, but we have C&P, so, whatever I guess [noob]

That only works once your past the access corridor, so if you fly fast enough not to get a corridor blocking warning, you overshoot the first pads.

It not needed. But thanks anyway.

All I need is the compass once I enter the station. To tell me where my Landing pad located. When you use the white dot on the compass. Then you roll right or left and When it at 6 o clock. Your landing pad should be below you. If you see an o you pass it.

I wish they had feature turn off the holograms and numbers.

Yep. I know how to use the compass too. It's inadequacy is what inspired this post.

I like to speed through the slot if it's clear. Unless I memorise which pads are close (the only one I remember is 6 :)) I don't know when I should drop gear. Not so bad in a Vulture, annoying in a Corvette.

To me it sounds like your flying way to fast. That the fault of the user.

I rather have Frontier work on updates that benefit the game. Not updates that would confuse 80% of the players.

Yes I said that I like to fly fast in my post. There's no fault here, I just like to fly fast. It's fine if you like to fly slow, you can still do that if the pad labels change.

It wouldn't confuse anyone, the current numbers offer zero information unless you've memorized them. If you memorized the pad numbers, sorry, but guess what? I have a new challenge for you. Well, it won't be a challenge because the new layout will be totally informative and logical and you wont need to memorize anything.

Not a bad idea, though I'd suggest putting the number first.

Also that map is upside down - We fly on the left dammit!:)

That don't help your case. The issue is your fast flying. If you fly past your pad it is your fault, not mine. Fact is I can even use the Compass to back up and land my ship. The number doesn't need to change.

And you think your layout better. Wrong. We have people who been playing since 2014 in Alpha and beta. 4 Years. Yes, they have memorised the layout.

We don't need Frontier to waste their time on the layout. When they can take their time on other things that are worth looking into like Repairing bugs. Future updates.

"Memorised the layout" ...Because they only fly a bigger ship and only need a few landing pads i guess.
I dont know where ANY pad is nor do i care where the green light is L/R...i just fly where the green is or in the middle, and look "where is that damn pad" and yes i past it because it's way too far in front of this giga thing/hub...but i like to reverse and seek it ;) it's fun with my little ships. With my bigger ships, biggest are pythons and they have automated landing [yesnod].

About that new system, it still sucks to me...why dont these hubs or whatever have colors 4 colors that would be (+) left-up green, left-down blue, left-under yellow, right-under orange. These colors would be in our ship to see on our hud, so if you come in with the green @ right you would know where to go...green on your left would be the other way( up or down/L or R)

Yeah, because they have no other choice. I really am not getting how you'd be negatively affected by this.

That's rather a silly argument. This would be quite the quick fix to perform.

why bother? the mini compass helps enough
if that's not enough there is the docking computer

also it will really off the ones that already memorize it
