Relations With Factions

I already understand the method for increasing your relations (neutral to friendly to allied) with minor factions in the game. My question is this.

What is the method for increasing your relations with the MAJOR factions (Federation, Empire, Alliance)? I know about the method for gaining rank with The Empire and The Federation but, how do you become allied?

I think its a case of the minor factions (allied with major ones) put in a good word for you. If enough minor factions are allied the major one will be too.

You can check a minor factions alleigance by looking for a faction symbol next to their name in the right hand system status screen. (For example Empire pact is a sub-faction of the Empire).

Minor factions generally exist within major factions, so get to allied with as many minor factions as you can to increase your overall Major faction standing.

For example: My Empire standing is "friendly" and i'm currently selling exploration data from my trip to the core.....I sell data in a station until my standing with the ruling (minor Imperial) faction goes to "allied".....I then move on to a new station with a new (minor imperial) faction in charge, and start selling data again. And so on and so on.

I'm expecting that eventually my Major standing wth the Empire will also rise to "allied".
