I'm not sure if I have a "problem" with this or not, and I'm not trying to pick holes in the gameplay.
Mostly, I'm just trying to wrap my head around it.
We've got a variety of Thargoid stuff which all causes corrosion damage to ships and stations.
Allegedly, this is a result of it working in a similar way to the barnacles, and attempting to leech resources from it's surroundings.
But then we've also got the barnacles, themselves, producing meta-alloys - which aren't corrosive and are an "antidote" to the effects of Thargoid stuff.
So, what's going on there?
If the Thargoids like/need their corrosive stuff, why DO the barnacles produce something that's the "antidote" to the stuff they want/need as well?
Some barnacles contain regular mineral deposits which have, presumably, been leeched out of the planet surface but not yet converted into Thargoid-friendly resources.
Are we to assume meta-alloys also come FROM the planets, themselves, and the reason they turn into bigger "lumps" is because the Thargoids can't use it?
If that's the case, perhaps it'd be nice if WE had some kind of scanners and mining equipment that allowed us to detect MAs and gather them?
Alternatively, are they some kind of by-product of the barnacles' conversion-process and they are (to the Thargoids) some kind of unwanted residue?
I'm just wondering how come the barnacles produce something that the Thargoids don't like/want and which is, apparently, contrary to what they find useful.
To me, it's a bit like us planting, say, corn and then the crop contains dollops of arsenic or something.
On a practical level, I can't help wondering why, if meta-alloys can "heal" a station, how come carrying meta-alloys aboard your ship doesn't counteract the corrosive effects of Thargoid stuff in a similar manner?
Given that we seem to be stuck with Palin's pokey cargo racks, it might be nice if carrying MA's did counteract the effects of Thargoid stuff.
