relativally safe places to logoff in besides stations.

I prefer to logoff in a station, but sometimes its too much trouble, if I am tired and just want to go to bed I will park somewhere.
Usually its at a nav point, not anywhere near it, I usually will go 50-250km from the nav point and turn off the thrusters and other major systems and log off.
When I log back in I am in the same spot, space is a big place and with most of the systems off its hard to find you.
I can see a moving ship or laser fire from a long distance, but a powered down non moving ship just blends into the background.

No one has found me while parking, although I guess there is the possibility that someone from a system authority vessel might space walk over and knock on my window, it seems a remote chance. ;)

If you jump into a system and logoff you will end up a short distance from the star when you return, same thing with a station if you are near it

You can log off pretty much anywhere, and (I believe the devs have said) your ship vanished after a short while.
I prefer to drop out of SC before exiting, ensuring there are no other ships around, and not too close to a star or planet.

Does the fuel scope keep working while your ship is still visible in the game, but after you logged out? It would be great to fill the tank this way ;-)
I guess I will check this next time.

The same second you log out your ship leaves the game, so no.

What you don't do is leave your game running, step away to do something, only to return to see that your little 2yr girl has been playing with "Daddies puter, lots of fun Daddy" and slam your unshielded Cobra with 30T of rares into the side of a Station. Still she had some skill by managing to turn my Cobra round to face the station and use the throttle.
