I prefer to logoff in a station, but sometimes its too much trouble, if I am tired and just want to go to bed I will park somewhere.
Usually its at a nav point, not anywhere near it, I usually will go 50-250km from the nav point and turn off the thrusters and other major systems and log off.
When I log back in I am in the same spot, space is a big place and with most of the systems off its hard to find you.
I can see a moving ship or laser fire from a long distance, but a powered down non moving ship just blends into the background.
No one has found me while parking, although I guess there is the possibility that someone from a system authority vessel might space walk over and knock on my window, it seems a remote chance.
