Relax People, ED will survive an ugly launch

Don't worry. There will be no playing on the 16th anyway. Either because it will be released late in the day or because of the total server meltdown that is bound to happen with the rush of new players. You won't miss anything.

I don't think so. I think the majority of the player base that plan on playing are already playing the game. So the servers should be fine and empty.

Even so. The servers acted up for at least 24 hours with every single update. Why would that change with v.1.00?

Oh, and if you are right, that would be terrible news for ED. I don't think the game will live long with only a 100,000 copies sold.

If they just get all the release patches done BEFORE the actual launch it should be ok, a day before at least. Things always mess up on day 1 because MMOs start adding new patches/downloads on day 1.

There shouldn't be to much lag and disconnects because it's mostly P2P traffic.

I predict a pretty normal, low-key launch. Sure, there are bugs - these days that's sadly normal for a new game. New players will take to the forum and make all the usual noise, many of which will be disappointed that the game isn't faster-paced as they've misunderstood the game from the start. Reviewers will be pretty positive overall, but this game will never appeal to the mainstream gaming community or reviewers writing for that crowd. All in all, launch will be just fine.

And yes, I have a crystal ball.

i also think we will be fine, considering that most of the games released this year has been pretty crappy i think we are in a good position.

Tonight has been a shambles for me, first time I've switched it off in frustration.
Seriously don't expect the game to be stable until tuesday, they busy round the clock tuning up the code and fixing stuff in the background and switching things on and off and on again.

From what I have seen at the moment most game sites are in love with Elite or at least their editors, I don't think the reviews will be all that bad, I would put my money on most them being positive.

I've avoided the treads since the whole Offline craziness but have been keeping up with news and updates with the game and I gotta say this.

PEOPLE CALM DOWN

Now with the state of the game, bugs and missing features, the launch of Elite: Dangerous will be ugly. Reviews will probably be bad(if the crew is any indication) and a lot of people will have issues in the early days and weeks. But FD can and will be able to turn a corner at some point in the near future.

The game is solid enough to stand on it's current foundations to still draw in an audience long after release. Is the game being rushed out? Yes. Could delaying it help by fixing bug and adding features? Sure. But there's reason for it. The kickstarter juggernaut Star Citizen. Frontier knows they have to get the game out before that game releases simply because there's more hype around SC. Shareholders are most likely telling the devs to get the game out in a working order for the holidays so they have the marketplace to themselves. That may sound like a bad thing but it really won't be. Best to ride out a small storm now with a decent ship than a hurricane in the titanic.

So relax. Have faith in what you bought into. You all know it's a strong and has the longevity to be a great game for years to come. The features will come, bugs will be fix and we'll all have a great game to play. Just right out the storm that's coming. ED will be just fine.

While you're reading the future can I have this weekends winning uk lottery numbers. Oh, and the winner of the next grand national.

Thanks.

Wow, way to set the bar high. I guess graduating high school was a success if you didn't get anyone pregnant? ;) lol

I didn't find Assassins Creed repetitive at all. It was a great game. Lots of other people did too.

Elite is only repetitive if you make it that way. You choose what to do after all.

That depends on your view.. and this is not to start ANOTHER thread of "what I think the game should have" type of stuff.. But SC is still a year away minimum, and Im sorry, but I dont even know WHAT that game is about... Its got TOILETS in the ship? What? is my unination meter going to fill up and I have to leave the controls to take a #1??? They have SO much detail......

Seriously ? I did see they are planning multi player crewed ships so you might want to give it 10 mins before emptying that meter. I had a prawn vindaloo for my tea last night and my 'No 2 meter' is currently on zero.

Back on topic, it is amazing me the number of times I am seeing the harbinger of doom threads about reviews that haven't even come out yet. Based on passed experiences what pro reviewers looks for is stability, the ability to run on reasonable spec machine in decent settings and a lack of show stopping bugs. If those boxes are ticked they tend to score well. On that score I don't think ED has too much to worry about.

I'm glad your crystal ball is working :)

Survive it may but I still think it was the wrong choice, even with the threat of star citizen on the horizon ED needed another 3 to 6 months to get itself into a release worthy condition. There will be a lot of fall out from the decision to release before its ready.

Star Citizen on the horizon? On Jupiter perhaps :D

I for one think Elite Dangerous is going to get 'great reviews'.

I think so, too, but for different reasons:

-most issues are not apparent if you play 10 hours. At that point you're still in a sidey doing your third mission, after having spent 3 hours binding your joystick and trying to dock on stations.
-Most testers won't even play 10 hours, they do not often have the luxury to spend a lot of hours on a game, the paper/site is asking for a review *now*, not in one month. That person likely played less than an hour:

Result: they say ED is a subscription game. Journalists....

Im sure ED will become a behemoth, a masterpiece of a game. Absolutely. It is a matter of time, thats all.
Many people are impatient though, so an ugly launch is Always a bad thing for publicity.
I just hope ED gets the same long-term chance of growth that EVE got. Because look at EVE at launch and look at it now, how much it changed. EVE's launch was dreadful lol :D

That said, we really cant say "RELAX" to honest customers who paid for the game with their own hard earned real life money. It is their right as customers to get a working Product for their money, we really cant argue with that tbh. If they want to complain, it is entirely in their full right to do so until the Product works as expected.
If you buy a loaf of bread and discover its full off maggots and bugs (pun intended), you dont relax, you go tell the store or bakery to get a refund or it replaced.
This loaf of bread costs far more, hence the justification for complaints is far higher if it doesnt meet expected standards.
------------(manual linebreak, because these forums are awful)-----------------

I also know it will get great Reviews despite the state of the game though. So called gaming "journalists" stopped being trustworthy and objective about fifteen years ago, as soon as developers and Publishers started treating them to hotels, dinners and booze. Its all about keeping a positive publicity relationship with the dev and Publisher companies, it has nothing to do with doing good objective fair journalism anymore. I havent read or given any shts about Review websites in ten years. Spore Review 10/10, i rest my case.

I think ED is destined to earn similar reputation in this genre as EVE did in the world of MMORPGs. That is: niche game, often tedious, noob unfriendly, slow paced and boring for majority of the crowd. Yet, EVE is so much better game than WoW ;)

at this point, i am not even counting the 16th as the release date. the release date to me will be when they have implemented all the features they were originally advertising for the final release. i am simply going to stop playing it until that time arrives and that will be MY ED release day. the times i do feel like playing but do not want to be disappointed by actually bothering, i just come on here and attempt to criticize constructively the lack of promised features instead. no one ever listens but it works well for me.

nah you are too much positive.

grey launch and after a few months Elite: Dangerous will have the wrost metacritic of all the time... and in few months 6-8 the game will poooof vanished

yes i have a crystall ball that work better of the yours

You are exaggerating a little. I'd wager around a 7 on metacritic (user scores) and will probably stick around long enough for Frontier to have a chance to make it a great game.

As for Katkon's comment this game no appealing to the mainstream community... Let's be honest, this game is pretty casual...

The latest X reviews threw me off buying it entirely.

Consider yourself lucky. I did not dodge that bullet and ended up feeling bitterly disappointed. ED gives me what I was wanted adding to the old X games; a small amount of player interaction and also fills the empty void Rebirth left me with.

I know I'll be playing well beyond launch and would be happy to join Sanderson's fundraiser should it come it :p
