Release Odyssey for Xbox?

Frontier you can release this game for Xbox. And we can join the larger galaxy and not be stuck in some alternate universe. Do you think they will release Odyssey to us?

Can't release something that doesn't exist. They would have to develop it first. In case you missed it all console development stopped a year ago.

I think you mean 2 years ago( since EDO was dropped) ? But you are correct Fdev have no interest in console players .
Enjoy what we have as that's all we are going to get I'm afraid .

That announcement was made about 16 months ago. "A year ago" is closer than "2 years ago" :)
The official announcement of no console ever for EDO( 16 months ?) but console development was stopped just after EDO dropped because they needed many fixes and improvements to get EDO workable for the majority ( 2 years) .
Even if you take DR Kay leaving in sept 21 she said that they were still trying on consoles then which would be 3 days off 2 years ? Its just a matter of when you or I believe it stopped ( or if it really got going ) .
It depends on how much you trust Fdev ?

It really doesn't matter in the context of this thread. I was just trying to be funny.

Trust FDev? Nah, I don't trust any game developer farther than I can throw a dollar.

Dr. Kay said that at the time of her leaving FDev, they still had a console port in the plans and they were still trying, but according to the other statements, that doesn't mean they were working on it.

Basically, even before Odyssey launched on PC, they said they changed plans from a simultaneous release on all platforms to a later console launch in Autumn (very generic and sort of non-engaging)
Post launch they said they will focus on fixing the PC version (post U5, mid July) while also acknowledging not much progress have been done for the console port (i read this as No progress at all) - so i think it's safe to assume they basically didn't get much much console work (if any at all) since alpha when it was obvious the game was not ready

So yea, it's:
  • 2 years and 6 months since Alpha
  • 2 years and 2 months since DBOBE's announcement of postponing the console release indefinitely
  • 1 year and 6 months from the official announcement of console port cancelation.

(yea, i know i'm no fun at parties 😂 )

Feels like just yesterday all of us console goons were waiting with bated breath to play Odyssey. How young and naive we all were back in those days.

ED is what bad development looks like. This game has been limping on for years now, and they got here by taking money from console players and then letting us know what our worth was.

Doesn't bother me now. I've got a game on console where I can walk around in my own ship, explore planets with atmos, and feel like a universe is inhabited.

I don't know if we consider bad development and bad management to be one and the same, but to me it's the management that takes all the blame. The actual guys with their noses buried in code have done as good of a job as they were able within the constraints set by management. I think given the opportunity the devs could/would work to release Odyssey on console, but they can only do what management says they can do. It's unfortunate for the CM's and Dev's that the managers making these decisions don't visit the forums and don't take the heat from players for their poor decisions. Pretty sure they're feeling some heat from their shareholders lately though (not necessarily with ED in particular, just their management decisions in general).

Every MMO to date is doing the exact same thing. It's called business management, not poor development. The big difference is we don't have to pay a monthly subscription to continue playing. The game you payed for is still 100% playable. It wouldn't be if they didn't care.

It obviously does. Why waste your time here if that other (totally different) game is so much better?

Very.
Consoles cannot handle even planetary rings (lower asteroid density)
So even with fact of more than 10 updates and much better performance- I still doubt in possibility of good performance on old consoles.
Unless you want controlled damage and abandoning "only" old gen.

And why not ? I bought a series X just for EDO before the news . On PC you have min specs so why not on consoles? I got my Xbox 1 in 2016 . I realised that old gen would never run EDO . I had expected ( wrongly) that next gen would be the way to go . I see PC players having to up grade kit to play so why not consoles ??

The Xbox One could. Ah the old 'computers aren't as powerful as they used to be' argument. It's why games no longer have spilt-screen co-op.

On consoles, the asteroid rings had lower densities. Lower enough so i felt a clear difference when mining on PC versus when mining on console.

And it seemed they never had the intention of making Odyssey a nextgen version, so it had to run on XB One and PS4 - and honestly it really cant.
More over, even with a port for nextgens, they still have to tailor the game performance for XB Series S, not for Series X - IMO MS made it way harder for console devs with their rather dumb release of a Series S console.

eh?
you got what you payed for, and you can still play what you payed for
Erm... no. No community goals, for example. No BGS shared with PC players. Tens of friend with no PC that quit the game for not being able to work side by side to conquer a system for their related faction. So you're basically wrong. They took all the money from Gamepass and XBOX or PS buyers and transferred to fill the Odyssey black hole of money, that is bigger than Sagittarius A, the biggest mistake Elite has. The Aliexpress copy of COD that destroyed the whole game with the lack of new content. Only new tharg interceptors and yearly no-one-cares-about-after-first-week thargoid related content. The clowny "foot combat" against thargoid ducks and new thargoid related grind materials for anything with no utility.

FDev dropped support of F1 Manager three months after releasing it, another great fans lack of respect!!!

Putting aside the lamentations - and that's not suggesting I'm not sympathetic, but for those who do wish to move forward the best path for a console owner to play Odyssey and remain on console is to use the Commander Profile Portal to get Frontier to create a clone* PC account and copy of the base Horizons game, purchase Odyssey and sign up for GForce Now where you can play it at a far greater fidelity than the console was going to deliver natively.

*it's not quite a clone, but nearly all things transfer..

And here we are after 16 months after the cancellation of the consoles, with frontier betting on the platform where there is more competition, with games, cheap, pirated, more game options in the same niche, emulators etc... It was obvious that this would happens, I regret the dismissals of employees.

I blame this on poor management, the vision that Odyssey brought is nothing like what the community expected, yes it has great features, but it threw everything that came before in the trash. Much of the blame unfortunately lies with the community that loves to suck up to Frontier here on the forum, and criticize anyone who gives a realistic view of the real problems.

Congratulations, you killed your favorite game, the numbers are falling, it's clear that development aimed directly at PCs is Wrong. Cyberpunk was like that and it was a disaster, Elden Ring was focused primarily on consoles and it was a success! I mentioned the most famous ones, but you can search, this is a constant.

It's not about the platform, consoles are still a symbol of video games and ignoring such a huge mainstream platform is a mistake.

I very much doubt there will be a return, the last one erases the galaxy that was once so beautiful.

My tip for you at Frontier, if it's any consolation, return with the legacy code, throw away this Thargoid war nonsense, return with console updates, and only put the interior of the fleet carriers so you can walk, etc... later add new fectures slowly and correctly to the dropper. Improve further with "cosmic events" and exploration.

Again, I'm sorry about the layoffs, but as you say, we reap what we sow. This goes for the community here too.
