Release on Console Root of Much of ED's Criticism?

I'm aware that there will be many Elite Dangerous fans who like to play the game on console, or even on both PC and console, and I want to make it clear that I am 'not' stereotyping console owners as being whingers or people who constantly criticize ED. With that said and out of the way, I can't however help thinking that those who are most likely to moan are mostly console gamers, as it is the nature of the beast that in general console games are more arcadey, simplified and quicker paced than most PC games - there will be some exceptions and I can appreciate that. Given what has seemed to be a torrent of whinging, moaning, crying and with the occasional flying toy and dummy spat, it's evident that there's been a few who have naively gone out and bought the game based merely from their perceptions of having watched Elite Dangerous' trailer - we've all seen the "this is the game I want" posts with reference to ED's trailer [rolleyes] But let's be generous here, sure, the trailer could be construed as being misleading, but only if you choose not to look further than your nose and only in the sense of the scale of pace, but with the time constraints of advertising I'm wondering how FD could have even made their trailer any different to what it is to reflect this.

It's naturally in Frontier's interest to make their games look spectacular and appealing, and if I'm honest I don't see their trailers as being misleading whatsoever. Sure there's a guy standing up in the cockpit, but I see this as a 'what's to come' teaser ;) But the moral behind this post is to point out that the onus is on the customer to review something before they plan to invest their time and money into it. So if you've bought Elite Dangerous and the game's not what you thought it was or it hasn't lived up to your expectations because you're not prepared to wait for the game to evolve, don't slate the game or attempt to change the certain aspects of game to suit you needs by moaning. Just take it on the chin by at least having the balls to admit that you've mistakenly bought something that turned out to be not what you thought it was. Equally as important, if the game's not for you don't slate it; just because Elite Dangerous may not be for you it doesn't mean it's not for your friend or their friends. We are after all all different, and if you give others an honest opinion about Elite Dangerous I know you won't go far wrong, because regardless if you personally like the game or not, there's no denying that for some Elite Dangerous is uniquely beautiful and brilliant.

Where has all the people gone who started surmising, throwing insults and baseless accusations? Please don't cut and run. If you're going to disagree, make accusations and throw scorn on someone for their post please at least have the common decency to stay and back up your claim/argument. People who have no time to do this because their mind's already made up are merely being rude and extremely arrogant - when people start throwing baseless accusations and throwing insults they're too arrogant to even see that they've already lost the argument.

But yet you do anyway, nice. [up] Besides the PS4 console owners have not even gotten the game yet!

PS4 owners are all too familiar with misleading trailers (NMS anyone?)

Stopped reading at the point where console gamers get the blame fer moaning the most...lost interest after that.

What is it with the console hating today? Nothing else to moan about?

Wait you actually read what he said?

I just formed my opinion from the title of the thread :D

Yeah sorry I normally avoid this type of debate (as a fan of both formats, as well as sanity) but having been browsing these forums for years this just isn't true.

The majority of the whinging is PC based, but only because the majority of the player base is on PC.

Windows and OS X users were complaining long before release, let alone before the possibility of console release was mooted.

While you have some comments worth considering you totally missed the boat with this one. The massive majority of complaints come from the PC side versus the Xbox. Just look at the Dangerous Discussion complaints versus the Xbox forums as they are night and day with Xbox players commenting on how negative the DD forum is.

You are also missing the deep immersion that console games have. Sure there are the kiddie games but the predominate sales last Christmas were with Grand Theft Auto 5, Watch Dogs 2, Fallout 4, Uncharted 4, Mass Effect and yes even No Man's Sky etc which are very far removed from the 80s arcade days. Today these games are the rule and not the exception.

That is the problem with posts where one assumes a situation is occurring but without research, testing, analysis and objective evaluation the posts are often misleading and at times promote a problem that doesn't actually exist. Then perception becomes reality. Thus while you stated that, "I am 'not' stereotyping console owners" the seed was planted with the comments above.

Regards

The console community seems polite, happy and enthousiastic. The whining by far comes from the pc-crowd, and often the older folks.

Which in a way is hopeful in a peculiar way. :D

The funny thing is, some of those 'older folks' (myself included) play on XB1. ;), at least that's what a poll indicated.
