Ships Release the Cobra IV for all versions of the game.

I have a feeling that many ships that simply don't get used all that much are going to have something happen to them. Either they will be retired or upgraded. Either way, the Cobra IV is kinda screwed. Frontier won't bother upgrading it because it is a Founders exclusive ship (or whatever it was, prepurchase or something)(that I have access to and one sitting in Shinra collecting dust), and so it will remain unused. If Frontier decides to retire ships (be they removed from the game or simply not for sale anymore) the Cobra IV won't be removed because it was a reward for pre-purchase, and it will remain unused. Either way, it will just sit there, irrelevant, and unused forever for no good reason.

Therefore, as someone who has exclusive access to this ship, I think it should be released to everyone. I really could care less that this would mean I no longer have exclusive access to this ship.

Edit: I'd make a poll, but i rolled a 1 on finding poll options.

(To the music of "Sound of Silence") (well, ish!)

Hello Cobra MkIV thread my old friend,
It's time to start you up again,
Because this issue softly creeping,
Left its complaint while I was sleeping,
And the hassle that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of this thread being locked as well!

Ok but why

Edit: I see your song and i will raise you.

Hello Sidewinder, my old friend
I've come to fly with you again
Because the profits got me greedy
And in the combat I was hasty
But the value, of my loadout was too high
And so I die
Amidst the sound... of Vipers

Simple. FDev clearly stated that the Cobra MkIV was a thank you for all Players who had supported them (by purchasing the Horizons DLC (LEP owners are covered by this)) up to 5th Feb 2016. They clearly stated that this would not be changed (and, so far, this has been the case). If they were to change their position now they would set a dangerous precedent (in that if enough people demand an exclusive item they were not entitled to FDev would change their minds), as well as Players no longer trusting FDev (as they had broken their promise). You (and I) are entitled to the Cobra MkIV, but we may have to accept FDev may not make any alterations to the ship.

I grok that. Thing is, if they just asked all of us who have the IV if we were willing to share, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone just said yes. If a few people said no and FDev stood by that no, I'd be upset at the few who said no but I'd abide by what FDev chose to do.

"No". It was an exclusive to thank those who backed the game in the first year, and pre-purchased Horizons. It was sold as an exclusive item as part of a package, sold on the shop for a limited time. There's no wriggle room and this thread has been done to death a thousand times already. People paid money specifically to get it, so it's their exclusive. I personally got it automatically because I had the LEP through Kickstarter, but thought it was a terrible idea. As soon as they'd advertised & sold it though, too late.
And please don't associate it with the Founders, because it was nothing to do with us. Thx.

What the community thinks is irrelavant.
FD said it was exclusive. They would be breaking their word. That would be seen across all of their games not just ED.
Bad for business.

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I'm flying a Cobra Mk IV again.

It's not the best ship in the game,
But a great pilot can use it just the same.

When others post on the Forum that they want to fly,
They hear no reply.

Within the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw,
Ten thousand people, maybe more.

People posting wanting to fly this ship,
People hearing that they won't get this trip.

People posting to Frontier voices never share,
In Trafalgar Square.

And whispered in the sound of silence.

One of many builds. It is not what you fly but how well you fly it.

The BBC will remove something from the screen if a couple of people contact them saying they find it offensive these days. So in that vein, as an owner of a CIV I would find it offensive if they released it to everyone after they promised me personally I would have it as an exclusive for life.
I’m not quite sure if they mean my life or life in general so I may well set up a trust fund to ensure it remains exclusive

I lol'd.

Just to clarify though, my vote is to share; not keep it for myself.

What is this build supposed to be for, anyway?
Just one general example. Well 456m/s boost to outrun many interdictions for new players, 60T cargo if that is your current game play. 40LY year jump range to go get around even to Guardians and Thargoid sites with Pointe Defense to assist your SRV. Awesome for gathering materials. Lots of serious weapons if you are still rated harmless. Otherwise you are going to need a bigger ship as your Combat Elite rating improves.

Think of a person whose job it is to review cell phones. They play with the best smart phones on the planet then someone gives then a new flip phone to review. Given their perception they will give an awful review because it cannot come close to what a latest smart phone can do on the Internet. But they miss the point.

A basic phone that can make a call anywhere in the world with a large keypad and a loud speaker that no iPhone could come close to. A big keypad to easily dial any number and with Google Assistant just say, "call whomever" and instantly connect. Serious texting use your iPad with a keypad.

That is a Cobra Mk IV. The Flip Phone of the available ships in ED. Use it for what it excels at. Meanwhile you want to share it with others? I don't care but Frontier does. You do know that this is a game developed in the UK who are very serious about tradition and honoring any past commitments to ED. They won't release the Cobra Mk IV because they honor their agreements no matter what the cost. That is probably why I love them a lot.

Regards

Le Sigh Yeah probably won't be happening. Maybe we can get lucky with a Cobra V... or at least size 4A Advanced Thrusters.

A ship that absolutely reeks and folk still want it, lol.

Oh yeh and can some mod just lock this thread, o7...

His reasons are so funny ;)
Frontier won't bother upgrade it or retire it cause it's not a common ship.
Why should Frontier ever retire a Ship type ? And Upgrade ? Ships in Elite won't get upgrades new Module slots or bigger ones that's it. With the last updates every Ship got an extra class 1 Slot the Mark four too

Perhaps they should release a Cobra V and give it to those who don’t have access to the MkIV exclusivey. Then we will have 2 lots of players able to moan about not having an exclusive ship. :)

Yep, it isn't even the same ship anymore, so no need to keep it exclusive, the deal has already been broken. I guess they could revert all current Cobra 4s back to their original state while keeping them exclusive, then open up the improved Cobra4 with an extra size 1 to everyone.

What reason would FD have for removing ships? I can't think of any and FD hopefully won't cut content from their game because of Bungo reasons.

The only negative of the Cobra MkIV is its speed, which is partly solved via engineering, putting it on par with an unengineered Cobra MkIII.
In every other aspect it is an improvement over the MKIII and is the most capable small pad ship in the game for both trading and mining. FD might not buff it directly, but as seen and posted previously, blanket buffs to simular ships will apply to the Cobra MkIV.

If any ships are under threat of removal, it's the Asp Scout, a dumpster fire in a landfill, during a heatwave, after a thermonuclear war, excuse for a ship.
Either way, it will just sit there, irrelevant, and unused forever for no good reason.

I've found a use for mine, it's perfect for planetary operations, so very fitting for the horizons pre-order exclusive ship.

Edit: I'd make a poll, but i rolled a 1 on finding poll options.
Polls were removed about 3 or 4 years ago, I think for excessive use or something.

As for the Cobra MkIV remaining exclusive, I don't care either way.
If it stays exclusive, I have it.
If it doesn't stay exclusive, I still have it.
