Proposal Discussion Releasing more teaser information and pictures

You guys at Frontier have played things very close to the chest during the development process. While I applaud not tying yourself down by announcing features before their time, I would like to suggest releasing a little more eye-candy and brain teasers to us.

I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping to see more ship models, concept art and some data on things like cargo capacities and jump ranges.

Basically, some brain candy to tide us over while we wait for the Beta and Gamma  not to mention stuff we can share on FB, show our friends and help spread the word on this amazing project.

It would be nice. I really like what they are doing but if I'm honest the updates and the progress diaries are rubbish (sorry FD harsh I know, but I still love you ). The latest diary I mostly skipped over to see if there was anything new there....there wasn't. Nothing I hadn't learned by watching alpha backers you tube vids.

General ship data (Hardpoints, Available Equipment, Weapons, etc.) would be very nice, to understand the concept and to plan the own career.

i'm in two minds about updates as looking at the latest dev diary tells us nothing we don't already know, sure FD could thrill us with eye candy and biweekly updates but unless there is something worth doing an update for (like for example a sneak peek at alpha 4 just before its ready to drop) i'm happy to get my sugar rush from watching the videos made by alpha backers.

The dev diaries are PACKED with new information, I see no problems with how they are currently showing us the game's progression. I do not want Frontier to rush their work just for the demands of bored forumdwellers. Remember how surprised we all were at their docking reveal? mainly because we weren't shown any shoddy WIP teasers.

The pace they're rolling at is absolutely fine.

You have a good point.

and this .....

I have a feeling that we will continue to only get a vertical slice of the game as it is developed, then we'll be blown away at release.

+1 .. no, +2

the nda from day one fits perfect into the way fdev see the world. they are having the most dedicated fanbase doing superb guerrilla marketing, all wom for them. just look at the class of you tube videos that have come out since alpha 1.

all the book projects feed back into ed and the other way round.

and i have a feeling that there is now a groundswell building that will turn into a monster wave which will break over the games industry in sept 2014 like nothing before it.

it feels just like the ks, when the lulling middle bit was over and the hardcore comments section started to sense the wave that took ed well over then line.

i don't have db down as a confidence guy, so it is lovely to see in the latest videos how all of the awkward doubt that you could previously sense is gone.

fdev & ed and we are all fine. in for the ride of a lifetime, still :D

I disagree.

While I don't have much of a problem with the time it's taking to get to beta, I do have a problem with the diaries.

What new information was in this diary exactly, or did I just skip over the new info the new info?

My point is they released the Alpha 3.0 dev diary almost a week after they released Alpha 3.0. So we have already seen what Alpha 3.0 is like and what it has to offer. In fact in the new dev diary, they included the docking procedure again. They released a docking tutorial last week. Like I said, I like that FD are taking there time, but the dev diaries are really thin with information. I can't be the only one that thinks this, although I fear my opinion is going to get steamrolled

I found an interesting video on youtube today where David is being interviewed by none other that the forum's very own Scott Manley. In the video David talks about a lot of very interesting ideas for the game. I am particularly interested in the inflatable space station idea lol :D

Another exceptionally interesting remark David made was about the release of the final game. He pretty much confirmed (well he didn't confirm but didn't deny completely either ;) ) that Frontier Are aiming for a release date to coincide with the anniversary of the release of the original game so that means if everything goes ok with the remaining alpha and beta's to come the the game will be here in September which is absolutely brilliant news as far as I am concerned.

For the record I love the Dev Diaries.

David is very much a childhood hero of mine. He's a legendary coder and all around cool guy, and seeing him front those videos personally is very gratifying to the little fanboy inside.

The reason why I'd love to see concept art is that it won't really have much use after the game is released, but at this point it would be great to drool over.

I see your point. I've sometimes thought the same about past diaries. It seems the latest one could have been skipped entirely, because as you've said, it doesn't add anything new. These diaries are a great opportunity to showcase what's coming up and whet our appetites even further, not show us what we've already seen (I mean that in the nicest way). :)
