Relying on 500k CR 'charity' for influence/ rep gain on missions ?

Been working through Alliance missions and doing the occasional charitable thing (free food, loose change).
Recently saw one asking for 500k charitable donation to help out expand in another system.
Has anyone bitten the bullet with one of those and seen a big rep gain ?

I tried it once (not that much though) and it didn't even get me to friendly so not sure. And it's only worth doing if you plan on sticking around that system for a while to get friendly or allied status from that particular sub faction.

screenshot would be nice, but that could be the mission to get a faction to expansion critical like was done by walt with the dukes of mikunn ill keep eyes peeled
