Hardware & Technical Remote gaming and lag

I will spend two weeks away from home, and I'm planning to game via Teamviewer to get through the lonely evenings.
Apparently the average ping between the two locations is 150ms. Given that I have fast internet both at home and at the destination (fingers crossed for the latter), I hope that the real input lag won't be much higher.

So the question is: will I be able to play Elite (perhaps not in open?), or should I only play slow paced/turn based games?

If you are playing ED and/or single player games then I doubt you will notice any lag, especially after a couple of beers.

Well, I have just tried it in the office (used the wake-on-wife feature), and from here the results are not encouraging, once the screen gets busy. :(
I will try it from home via a mobile network (to 'simulate' a remote location) to test it again, especially as I have no sound (may have to download an earlier version of Teamviewer).

A friend of mine plays XCOM regularly over Teamviewer, so I recon turn based or slow games like the Day of the Tentacle (I still haven't finished it!) should be okay. But how great it would be to play Elite, at least in solo mode... :(

I was considering it, but I'll use my laptop for work on which I can't install anything - Teamviewer works through the Chrome app.

My issue as well. And, due to the fact that my IT guy believes I need workstation type computer I have no desire to bring along a second as this boat anchor weighs too much already. I couldn't convince him I don't need all that for a little 2D cad...

As a result, when I'm on the road, which is frequently, I've nothing to do as I don't watch TV. But ya'll get the benefit of my "charm" as I haunt the forums... :D

You guys inspired me to try online gaming using a 4G tether. It works well, so much better than I anticipated. My smart phone is a cheapy Huawei and is three years old. I usually game at work when the service users have all crashed out. Recently been stuck in a place just out of wifi range. Anyway just played half an hour of CSGO on my laptop with a 66 ping. I didn't use the browser just the match making, which usually sends me to a server in eastern Europe. I suspect using the browser I could have connected to a closer server at half that ping. Cheers for the inspiration. My shift at work feels quicker than the rest of the week.

If you have the PS4 version of the game, grab a Vita on the cheap for remote play :D

The display is gorgeous.

Controls are naff though.

At the moment my biggest issue is that I don't have sound, even though I tried all fixes and even have an older version of Teamviewer insalled. Moonlight doesn't work (via Chrome app it didn't find my PC through the IP) and Chrome remote desktop refuses to work on my corporate brick.

So probably I'll have to resort to playing turn-based games while listening to music... :(

If i was going to try this I might start by looking at setting up an Amazon Workspace box, installing the games on the AWS workspace machine and getting remote access via a browser.

I've tried TV today via my phone at the poolside bar of the hotel, and it appears that the net there is much faster, than in the room. That promted me to give it a try. :D

I will check tomorrow with my laptop whether I can exit and dock a station. :)

Haha, not even that, it was training mode.
As I write, I've just tried to undock, and apart of the too sensitie mouse, it was fairly smooth? The graphics is okay, the framrates are acceptable, it is rather the input lag that is causing the issues.

However, I might try to do a few data delivery runs with my Eagle 'for the fun of it'. :)
