Remote outposts can be dangerous

Evidently visiting a remote outpost such as the Colonia Route outpost Lagoon Sector NI-S B4-10 can be just as dangerous as returning to the bubble from an extended exploration trip. I was just attacked and my ship was destroyed by an NPC while taking a look at the tourist megaship in the system. I guess the attack must have been triggered by the bit of exploration data that I had accumulated in the 4.5k ly of travelling from the bubble. Not such a big deal finance-wise, but still quite annoying because it feels that much of the play time of 3 days has been destroyed due to no fault of mine - I had assumed that a tourist attraction in a remote outpost would be safe. Apparently I was wrong, so let this be a reminder to other harmless explorers - never trust the game to leave you in peace when you're near civilization of any kind.

...civilization...
And it is here where you have made your mistake.

Here in the 21st century, I live in a "civilized country". That means I can walk out of the doors of my house completely unarmed, get in my car (which also carries no weapons), travel to pretty much anywhere else in the country I choose to go to, visit there as long as I wish, and travel home again, confident in the reasonable assumption that at no point in this journey am I likely to be attacked and killed by a random stranger.

If we take this definition of "civilized", then "civilized space" in ED is uninhabited space. Human space is where the barbarians are at. That's why I call Human space "inhabited space" rather than "civilized space".
