Remove duel cockpit mode

I don't know if this has been the subject of anyone else's suggestion but.

Please remove the duel cockpit mode, it is highly annoying not to be able to use a module just because it is in the wrong mode.
It makes not sense.

Previously, I set up fire groups to select the combination of modules I wanted to use which served the same purpose and allowed combinations of combat and exploration feature that suited the situation as I chose.

The only real use for second mode is to see the scanning progress of planets. And I only need this for gas giants, I use effective probe dispersal templates I learned for 7 probes or less, which covers 90% of my scanning or more.

IMO the scanning progress could be shown in an optional mode like night vision, no need for extra cockpit mode that prohibits the use of a whole set of modules. This way all modules could be used at all times.
 
There is a concept behind the two modes. Within mining, there already is a little actual benefit from it. There's been a number of suggestions around to make it much more useful. They differ in scope and complexity, but even many of the simpler ones would really be a great improvement to the game.

I would support about any of these suggestions which would give it more use. But removing it would be a step back. I'd rather have it used properly.
 
May I suggest "if a fire group is composed of 'analysis mode only' tools, automatically switch to this mode", and same for 'standard mode only' tools/weapons?

That's the weakest suggestion i yet read. Sorry.

The simplest suggestion i would support is to completely remove the error message of an item in the fire group not being available in the current mode. This would mean that you can bind much more equipment to each fire group. You would always be able to use those which are available in the currently selected mode, without the game spamming you with error messages.

It would not be elegant. It lacks a number of special features of more elaborate suggestions. (If i had the choice, i'd go for one of those. ) But it would suffice to make this thing actually useful, while implementing it should be rather limited effort.
 
Its been suggested before, but I think letting us set up separate fire groups for each mode would alleviate a lot of peoples annoyances with it. I loathe having several fire groups I need to cycle through when half or more of them aren't even applicable to what Im doing. While were at it, is there any reason we cant have separate fire groups for supercruise and normal flying? why cycle through weapons firegroups that i cant use anyway just to get to my scanners (that conversely cannot be used in normal flight either).
