Remove engineering

Or scale certain OP engineering back-

Or introduce some form of PvP that balances the scales so us PvE players can enjoy our engineered ships in peace!

This post comes a little too late, probably should have been requested years ago.
In my opinion, materials should unlock blueprints instead of being consumed for every module, say you reached G5 for your FSD then you should be able to buy for every ship already unlocked G5 FSD. Gathering materials from destroyed ships or high grade emissions feels like collecting junk. The encoded data should be either permanently available to your inventory once you find it first time (I mean, it's data that can be copied) or the whole concept completely removed, re-logging at Jameson's Cobra crash site is incredibly boring. I didn't mind getting the blueprints for Guardian FSD booster since you have to do it once but for every modules is annoying and I imagine lots of new people would just give up.

Don't remove engineering completely, just the grades and the experimentals. Redesign to make engineering to be not a straight update, but customization with linked sliders. Let us set our modules stats as we want in the set limits. The Yamiks video even showed an example slider interface "made in 5 minutes" for something like this at 3:40.

There is a huuuuge gap in pvp between nonengineered and engineered ships, its super booring to fight with oposite

It would be nice to have a switch to allow a player to prevent their unengineered ships from instancing with engineered ships. I'm kinda surprised this isn't a thing since Engineers are technically "pay to win" (part of the Horizons DLC). In the meantime, we can always block those who fly those G5 godship FDLs. 🤷

Yes, remove some more content... as the GC and Galnet removal is not enough.

There is no need to remove them. I like the idea to have something to specialize my ship for different purposes. I would like however to spend time to implement ... to explore... all the different setups to see which suits me better. Now, instead, it seems more focused on material collection, a collection that relies more on luck (did you ever tried to collect all the G5 materials from HGSS?) that other. It is just frustrating.

The engineer system just needs some improvement to make it less overcomplicated without any reason. The following quality of life improvement would be greatly appreciated:
  1. Roll system: just one roll or to unlock each grade. Am I working with an engineer or am I in a Casino?
  2. Material grinding system: introduce a method .... a tool.... whatever you wish, to know where exactly high-grade materials can be collected and eventually increase the storage
  3. Make manufactured eventually synthesizable from raw material: at least we can grind just one type of material
  4. Improve the trading ratio for Elite traders players
  5. Remote workshops contact for all blueprints on some station: introduce a special contact that allows implementing any modification (including experimental) without the need to go every time to each engineer shop. Ok visit the engineer the first time and ok to perform the modifications in their shop to reach the 5 grade. After that, it is enough. For long term players, that mechanism is not funny as it was the first time, it is just frustrating and annoying.
And by the way:

Hello, i am from Yamiks, remove dat engineering system.

....You are from what?

If you scale back certain engineering to G1 levels, thats far back enough to make Core owners with Guardian, tech broker modules and (most) Powerplay modules even out, as well as make security and ATR have more bite (so no crazy tanking).

You would have to scale back certain situations though- new CZs being an example being bullet sponge city in this situation.

I agree. It's impossible to win a fight in my ships against anyone with engineered weapons. At least then all weapons would be equal and it would just come back to pilot skills. Not all of us have the time to grind for engineering weapons. Some of us would rather "play".

HOWEVER: you'd then have to say "take out the engineered engines and extended FSD range" as well. Well, now you see the good with the bad. How many people do you think would be willing to give up extended FSD jump range now that we've all had a taste of it? I doubt you'd see anyone willing to go back to "normal," especially explorers already out in the black. Me? I happen to like my AspX with it's 42.2 LY jump range.

Keep the concept but improve the implementation. Stop making it dependent on unobtainable materials. If I drop into one more HGE and find Imperial Shielding rather than Military Supercapacitors, I'll scream. Also completely eliminate the concept of an engineering "roll." Yes it's been improved, but should be eliminated completely. If I were engineering a bridge and you asked me, "will this bridge fall into the water?" you're not expecting me to answer, "Dunno. Depends what kind of ROLL you get."

The better pilot will win.. Even if less engineered
I am not for changing engineering, much as I considered the size of the gap it created to be a mistake. But........................

How much of a skill gap does it take to overcome a 50-75%, or even higher, gap in weapons power and shield/hull strength with 15-25% more speed and maneuverability in the same sized package between G5 and unengineered? It's not trivial that is for sure. Now, if we want to compare the relatively easy to reach G4 level of engineering vs the PITA level of grind that G5 can be, yea, it's not that huge a difference. But unengineered vs a G5 meta PvP build? That would take quite a bit of skill to overcome in a duel.

That said, engineering is here, it's settled. Taking back from players is far more problematic than never giving them something in the first place. And, people wanting a vanilla ship PvP experience could create a PG aimed at that. Otherwise, in addition to increasing their skills, they need to get engineered to at least G4 if they really want to be competitive. Please, no one tell me about this one person they know that can take on a wing of elite G5 FDLS gankers with a single unengineered iCourier. They may exist, but they are the exception.

OP, you are right IMO but there is no reason to point it out anymore. FDev is nearly hopeless. I say "nearly" as it might turn out that ED2.0, err, I mean New Era, might fix most of the utter lameness that is the current ED. That may be why this game seems essentially abandoned: why invest a lot of time to fix something that is getting replaced in the future? Well, I can hope. But FDev's past performance does not instill confidence.
