Remember when Fdev didn't give a station to Yamicks because he didn't do "constructive criticism" ?
Serious question - I thought station and system names were given to backers who paid big bucks for Kickstarter packages, and not Frontier buying positive PR? Because if the terms of Ant getting a station was that he only say good things about Frontier (like state-sponsored media), then I would be much more suspect of his earlier positive videos than his later negative ones.

It was voted on. Obsidian Ant won. IIRC.

I don't know the exact details about Kickstarter and station. But I know for Odyssey release, they made a PR move by sending a real life package to a bunch of influencers (all positive toward the game), and also made a station in the game in their name. The voice operator used to be the influencer voice, I think.
It included people like OA, D2EA and Exigeous.

At the time, Yamicks was refused a package. Fdev said it was because it was not "constructive" criticism, and the community doubled down on it saying he is negative for the sake of it, and how it was not a regular marketing stuff where negativity is bad, constructive or not.

Also, some debate about the fact popular community tool creator like Inara or EDDB were totally ignored, despite having a large impact.

Nowadays it's very ironic, because Yamicks is arguably the only one who kept doing most of his content around ED, negative or not. While Exigeous haven't made a video in a while, OA is playing a lot of other games (or is quite negative toward ED at times) and D2EA is also branching out.

maybe, but if he is backers And are doing good videos about the game. then after all that work on praise it then decides to destroy it, then yes removed him has he is now turned against the game.

There you go, the candidates for "Name that station" vote...

There is a big point to raise when someone say "pointing issues" mean you "want to destroy the game".

I guess it's on par with a large part of this forum community, who see any issues being raised as an attempt to sabotage the game.

Well found!
That post (and many of the responders) bring back some happy memories (y)

I have vague memory of this, but I thought it was some fishbowl that broke in the mail. I didn't realize the station name and voice were tied to this.

Personally I wouldn't mind if his voice was removed, not because I dislike OA, but because it kinda breaks my immersion a bit (not that I've been there in years). I also don't think Frontier should be exchanging favors for positive press, but if they remove OO, they should remove ALL the "bought" station names and voice-overs. Buying good PR just doesn't sit right with me, and it should never have happened in the first place.

BTW I now have a burning desire to rename my fleet carrier to Obsidian Orbital, and OA doesn't even do Space Engineers videos :p

Absolutely. If way as couple of thousands commanders attack a station in 24 hrs it should blo we up!
Well here's the thing, station can only be attacked when the server are down. And we don't play then.

The ultimate defence against players.

This thread falls so close to breaking so many forum rules I don't even know where to begin. So I'm going to put a stop to it before it gets more out of hand.

It really would help if there's going to be outrage people at least get the outrage right.

As has been pointed out Obsidian Orbital was named on a community vote. It was only at a later date that Frontier invited him to record some vocal lines to add to the station

Not all the people who got the packs were positive towards the game at all. They had a surface settlement named after them, and no none of them did voice acting.
