Remove UI shake while docked

SqfLBKO.gif

^ this is from 2018-03-17, but the same thing is annoying me again today at the CG station.

Remove the UI shake while docked. It serves no purpose and makes it difficult to read.

Apparently this goes back to at least 2015.

I am "modifying" my suggestion...

Apparently the "reduce camera shake" option under graphics solves this problem.

... but, it does not take effect without relog.

New suggestion:
Add description for this (and all other options) and say it needs relog to take effect!

I had tried this option before but it did NOTHING when I changed it, so I thought it was for something else (never really knew what).

I hope someone can find this useful if they are looking for the answer to the HUD shake problem.

I don't think the "remove camera shake" completely solves it. As far as I can tell, it's mostly due to floating point rounding issues while the ship is docked into a rotating frame of reference (the station is spinning). I might be wrong, of course. But that's often how this sort of thing happens- Not enough precision in the floating point calculations, or the camera position is calculated independently of the ship position, etc.

I think the relog itself is what's helping (mildly), by permitting it to use a more local origin for the coordinate system, or something along those lines.

Whatever the reason, I still think it needs to go away. Perhaps you are correct that it is a bug in the calculation between logging in already docked vs docking in game.

I played for a little bit with "reduce camera shake" enabled... BORING! Ship is perfectly still in hyperspace and while scooping etc. (boring like in VR without it)

My original suggestion stands. There should be zero camera shake while docked.

The issue occurs for me on non-rotating stations as well (outposts) and doesn't consistently happen on rotating ones. Also if it was a just precision issue I think you'd see the wiggle as soon as you rotation-locked to the station, and not on docking. I think it's probably a combination of things, although I don't think any of this rules out simulation precision as a contributing factor.

Has this changed in the last patch? 3.1.3?

I am docked at an asteroid base, the UI is stable, but the station outside is shaking a bit.

If this was already fixed, thanks! If not then LOL because the station is shaking.
