Removing your Wanted status easily

Well, not strictly true in the sense of removing entirely but putting it in dormant state so that nobody can scan it and consequently attack you.

I discovered this by accident as I'm sure many people have before. I had a fair few bounties on my head and got killed in a conflict zone. When I climbed into my new ship after the insurance rebuy I noticed all the bounties against me were now marked as 'dormant' and were then not visible to anybody else unless I went back to that system where the bounty was originally from and kicked off trouble again.

So from time to time through carelessness I do pick up bounties against me while farming compromised Nav beacons but I simply dock at the nearest station, buy a cheap Sidewinder, blow it up by crashing it in the space port and the wanted badge disappears. At that point you just pick up your old ship from storage and back into the battle where you were before without any hindrance from bounty hunters attacking you.

I know many of you will know about this already, but it kind of feels like cheating. I can not see the logic of being able to do this and why FD made it this way?

Any ideas?

If the police scan you it becomes active and timer restarts, in the system dormant fine was given.

Ah OK, hence the reason that is not reactivating in my case as I'm in compromised Nav beacon where the police are absent. Yes that makes sense.

Thanks for that info.

I think the idea was that a lone player should have the possibility to "fake his death" and still operate under the radar in the jurisdiction in question, having to worry only about police scans which would reveal his identity and re-activate the bounty.

Players could already ask a friend to scan them, kill them and collect the bounty, and there had to be an alternative to that, so that having to find another player to kill oneself would not be forced upon players as the only way to get rid of the bounty faster.

Of course, there is a discussion about whether players should be able to have their bounty penalty (which consists in them being hunted if nothing else) removed as soon as possible by death or suicide, but apparently FDEV want a criminal playstyle to exist in the game without too much negative consequences.
