Rental Shuttles

I don't tend to go too deep into detail with my suggestions but a rental "shuttle" would be a nice feature. Allowing you rent a ship suited for travel at a set price would make moving multiple ships to a station a possibility rather than having ships scattered wherever you bought ships before.

Basically a fast travel between your ships. Shuttle departure and landing cutscenes while loading new location. I agree this would be a nice feature.

As long as travel time makes sense, as in I really wouldn't want the ability to go say 50000 LY instantly. Otherwise this would be a nice idea.

Definitely yes, a concept for a transport service for those ships in remote locations was already proposed in the Design Discussion Archive: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6753

Definitely no, no fast travel. That would render traveling and exploring large distances completely meaningless. A taxi option in real time, where you hire a transport vehicle that brings you from A to B could be done, but without anything to do on the voyage it would be pretty boring. Could work once walking inside ships in first person perspective is implemented, though.

The other way around, having your ships come to you (again, in real time; see above) sounds like the better way to handle scattered ship locations.

I think they call it a Sidewinder...

Yea you guys are right, I didn't think it through on the travel time. I certainly don't think we should have a teleporter mechanic to instantly move. It would break the real time persistent world. If you take a shuttle 200 light years then the game should model that as an NPC flight that you can watch. Leave, dock, refuel, peoe get on-people leave, arrive at port just as you get back from making a sandwitch, taking a leak and checking the forums :)

I was more thinking that you would fly the shuttle, literally renting a shuttle to fly to a new location and trade in for another ship you have there, without requiring you to buy and sell a sidewinder.

I would also like to see some kind of ship that you can buy or rent or loan (with a hefty deposit) or whatever, that has no cargo, no weapons, no scanners, only a good jumpdrive, fueltank and a fuelscoop. The ship would basically be useless as anything else but pure transport. You pay a deposit, and if you blow up .. too bad.

Sounds like a fun gank target

How about when you find a new station you want to use as your new 'Base of Operations', you can select a delivery service and pay X amount of credits to have your ships transported to that location. And the further away that station is from your ships, the longer it will take for them to get there. For example, moving a viper 213 light years will cost you 50,000 credits and will take a little over 5 hours to deliver.

Or another option, sell all of your ships except for the one with the best jump range, then travel to the new system and rebuy them all in the new system.

Either way is fine for me, the latter being a little more convenient.

I prefer the former option, that's exactly how I imagined such a transport service. The farther the ships have to be transported, the longer it will take and more expansive it will be.

The later option might be more convenient, but it sounds a little cheap. Technically it wouldn't be different to magical instant teleportation, would it? It would ignore what kind of ship is offered at the current location, and if it has a shipyard at all.

No, your first suggestion sounds like the way to go. It is more interesting in demands better planning from the player. I would definitely vote for that mechanic!

The second option is what I do now, if I am going to travel some where 400 light years away I don't go there in my type 6 and buy another combat ship. I sell all my ships except for my type 6, travel there then buy and equip the ships I want back. That way I don't have to travel all the way back if I want to use my viper or buy a second viper in the new system. That's what I do now, I'm okay with it but I'd prefer my other idea of paying for transport. I think you thought I meant a rebuy all sold ships option. I didn't, that sounds kind of messy. Not all stations sell the same goods and ships and what not.

Yes, you are right, I misunderstood you and was assuming you meant some kind of "rebuy all ships" option, without considering if the current station has a shipyard at all.

"Manually" selling all ships and buying whatever is available at the destination station is of course a total valid way to get your ships from A to B. Perhaps I should do the same... Then again, my ships are already so far scattered around that just finding them all to sell them would be too tedious :D

Ah well, I suppose I am going to wait until they add a proper ship transport service to the game.

Yeah I hear ya, I was up late playing. Just getting up lol. I'm about to go fly back to my home system and sell all my ships to go conflict zone hunting. Thankfully I found a station that had all the ships I wanted so I only have to make one stop! Depending on the ships you have it might be worth it to make the trips, it could be a long time before they make that mechanic. Or possibly never.

This is definitely needed. I've been wishing for this feature since I purchased my first ship. I don't understand why it's not already in game, and I don't understand some of these crazy suggestions people are throwing out. Some people can't wrap there heads around the simple idea of a dirt-cheap ship with no abilities beyond travel that you would then ditch when you got to the station holding your ship. EVE has this exact system with the capsules they use. As someone mentioned, a Sidewinder is already close to that. However, it's a little expensive for a transport shuttle, requires a shipyard, and has a relatively low jumprange; if you have a ship stored in the middle of a bunch of long jumps you may not even be able to reach it. A transport ship should be available at all stations (maybe through contacts?), be incredibly cheap, have no weapons/cargo space, have a good jump range, and able to be discarded at the target location. It would be even better, but not really necessary, if it had a large fuel tank and a fuel scoop.

I also like the proposed idea of a system where you pay based on distance to have it transported back to you (which would happen in real time).

I use an Adder. Outfitted properly you can get over 20LY range. Put on the biggest fuel scoop you can find and you'll get to where you need to go in no time.

It might also be cool to be able to just buy a ticket to ride on an Orca heading your way...;)
