How about CMDRS being able to rent some of the larger cargo ships?

Subject to fixed/unchangeable equipment loadout, higher insurance, limited operating area & a cut of profits... why not?

Allow others to make cash from casual grinding.

Not a bad idea. You could lease it for a fixed sum for a fixed number of hours.

Leasing of very expensive things is very common in the real world, loads of airlines lease their planes and oil companies will often lease tankers and floating production systems to reduce CAPEX and exposure - depending on the tax regime of the host country it is often better to lease rather than buy too (I work for an oil company so i look at this a lot).

I put that, and limited time test drives, in the suggestion forum ages ago. I think it'd help those people with more limited time to play the game experience more of what it has to offer. It would also enable things like ship black markets for stolen craft, high bounties for ship thieves, penalties for late returns, etc. It'd open it up with an alternative to credit grinding and give players an opportunity to make larger rewards with lower outlay.
