Rep Decay with Minor Factions, not just Major!

Hmm, shouldn't be too hard to get them up and running again, even after a two weeks holiday and such. The new donation missions are really nice for that purpose.

Just re-reading Sandro's post here:

I thought occurred to me. Does he mean that reputation only decays while you are offline i.e. when you login it calculates the amount of decay based on the time you've been offline, or does he just mean that it updates when you are offline i.e. it decays all the time you're doing nothing to maintain it, but you won't see it change until you log off and back on again?

The second option sounds more sensible if they just don't want to have ships/stations change status instantly in front of your eyes.

Just inside the friendly boundary so I read that as a single down arrow puts you into neutral.
If you view each of the categories as 100% then 50% of neutral would be the 0 point, 100% of Allied would be the max achievable. Being at 1% of friendly is as good as neutral really. Although I get your point it wouldn't actually tic over. Maybe I should wake up properly before I start posting...

It could also mean one point under the allied threshold, so a single up arrow puts you back to allied.

The rep decay is a pita. My "home" system is independent and all 5 minor factions are also independent. I spent a fair amount of time and effort getting all 5 factions to max allied status, but now whenever I log in I see 5 red down arrows. Now I will be the first to admit that it doesn't take a huge amount of effort to run missions for them to keep the allied status, but supposing that's not what I wanted to do that day? Not fun imho.

Fair point :D I was making a hypothetically valid reason to be offline for an extended period and it was the first thing that came to mind.
Not sure why we should have to provide any reason to be offline, it's a game and one that now seems to benefit those who have fallen and punishing those that have worked and taken care gaining what they have.
I am fully on board with rep decay but only online and tied to my actions not whether or not I choose to sleep

If you are in hospital for two weeks, you've got more serious things to worry about that some "rep-decay" in an on-line game. :)

That wasn't his point ... post hospital, rather than be excited to play ED he has a grind to look forward to thanks to the rep loss.

Punish the player for the things they do in game rather than the things we do out game. (Decay whilst in game, not whilst out)

It's really simple ;)

Really, I gotta wonder if Frontier bothers to run ideas of this stripe past anybody who actually plays games, and not just those who, for a living, play Frontier games exclusively. It really seems dorky to punish players for taking the time to be with their families or go out with friends instead of playing this bug-laden game.

And what of the many players who have mentioned on this board that they like the game generally but find some "feature" to be intolerable, so they decide to take some time off and wait for Frontier to correct their bad choices? Do these players get greeted with a "Welcome back, now bend over" message? All that reputation they spent so much time accruing is now in the toilet because Frontier made Yet Another Bad Choice in gameplay? Yeah, that's the way to really generate user loyalty. These players are going to ashcan the game and tell all their gamer buddies that Elite is a Pile Of Scrap (POS) which should be avoided like the Black Plague.

<sigh>

You know, I was hoping for so much with this game and have received so much disappointment. I'm too broke to go buying other games now because of the $200US I put into this game and its associated controller, and Frontier's "Now We Gotcha" license prevents me from selling my copy to anybody else. I'm stuck here waiting for Frontier to come through. As Early says, "Does that seem right to you?"

Yeah, and then when you get back home, think about firing up the game finally again, only to find that your reputation has decayed to a lower status in the meantime. As if being in the hospital wouldn't have been enough.

I've made a thread about this in the bug reporting forum, please chime in there to make it clear this is not just one or two player experiencing an odd outlier effect or losing rep for misdeeds and not realizing it:

Hmm, the more of the details I actually learn about powerplay the less I like it. Any offline decay sucks major, I mean im in hospital for 2 weeks and come back to a neutral stance with everyone, way to get people back into the game...

No. You only decay from Allied to Friendly and then it stops. You only decay from Hostile to Unfriendly and then it stops. Most crap missions require you to be at least unfriendly with the group.

So this is not fixed? I guess all my allies are now friendly. I was somewhat ok with major faction rep decay, but this is not acceptable. Good thing right before 1.3 hit (logged off with 2 min to server shutdown) I did 1 mission and get allied + system permit I was working on, if I did not I would have to redo that system after my weeklong trip.

FD better restore the subfaction rep to its maximum value after they fixed this...
