Rep Gain question - anyone know ?

Hello Commanders,

My current goal (like many of you) is to move up through the Empire Ranks, but once I'm allied with a particular Empire faction, I don't know if I should continue to work for them, or move on to another faction in another system and go through the neutral -> friendly -> allied progression again.

I've been allied with Patron's Principals for ages, and have subsequently done dozens of missions....but no promotion has been offered since Count.

So my question is: Once I'm allied with an Empire faction, is any further rank progression possible ?

Does anyone actually know the answer to this question (apart from FD) or are we all speculating ?

many thanks

What you need to look out for are ranking missions. Any mission can get you a better faction level, but only ranking missions will increase your rank. Doesn't take so much faction to get them offered. I was still neutral to empire when i had the rank i needed to buy a clipper. Just look out for those ranking missions (it's in the description)

I'll keep an eye out for ranking missions......I had assumed they're offered after a certain amount of Faction Rep is gained....the problem is, now I'm allied....I dont' know if I'll see another ranking mission with this faction. I think i might be wasting my time continuing with Patron's principals. I'll move to a new system and start working for a new faction....at least that way I'll get some feedback from the game as I move from neutral to friendly.

Guess I'll keep plugging away for now.

Thanks for your reply.

EDIT: if any Devs are watching, any advice you can offer would be appreciated.

Ensure that you are only doing the missions for the factions that control the station and ensure they are allied with the major faction of interest. Prioritise those missions that require you to donate materials to the cause or ask you to give x message to another station. By doing this I found that the progression missions pop'd on a regular basis. Do missions for two stations... ALSO ensure that you check the B-board ever time you dock regardless of the station; on three occasions I was given progression missions when docked in stations I had not run any missions in.

Good hunting/

Aha - that's interesting.

I'll keep an eye out for that.

Donation missions are costing me a fortune...they all want 40k. I've always done them previously but have ignored the last two. These cheeky blighters just take my money and disappear...these missions doesn't mention rep or rank gain at all. However, if you think they're worth it, I'll continue shelling out my hard earned cash.

Gotta get that Earl rank soon!

You will find that every so often a huge contract appears " shift 20ton of x to Y2 for a seemingly huge amount of credits" these missions cover the costs and some.
