Repair SRV

SRV. No turret. No wave scanner. Capable of repairing modules/hulls in nearby landed ships.

So, one might carry a 2-slot planetary bay, one exploration SRV, and one repair SRV.

How about it uses the same ammo system as regular SRV, but instead of bullets, it uses them to repair? That way, it can use the same synthesis to resupply, and to repair more/faster with better synthesis.

Currently without docking you cannot repair your hull or Power Plant.

Hull repair limpets were a new feature announced at Lavecon, coming soon.

This is the suggestions forum. I know how is now.

I was suggesting a possible way that it could be changed. It would also require landing, which I think would be an excellent balancer, as that would be pretty useless in combat, and extremely useful for exploration.

You are right, it would be pretty useless during combat, and the ability to repair your hull without docking is a desirable feature, so much so that FDev have announced that they are putting a way to do this into the game, seemingly in a way that will be useful to more than just explorers.

Good luck Teh Smoo, your idea has some merit.

I also think it would be more fun to repair ships personally, instead of creating a new class of expendables. (Although, I guess that's not going to work for ships that can't carry SRVs).

I'd like to see a SRV with long range scanners that can find geysers at long distances and then call my ship there and swap to mining vehical

I dunno about that. I think the SRV is actually in a good place, scanning wise. Get nice pair of headphones and stop and listen closely. You can find POIs from 2km up, or just careen around finding rocks.

Extending range would make it far easier, or possibly worse, with too MANY contacts. Also, have you ever reset a SRV instance? The sonar starts empty, and then starts to make noise as the server populates the map with stuff. It simply might not MAKE that many things at once.
