How do I repair things?

Thanks - I figured it out by now. But this would be something I would have liked to learn in the tutorial, without the frustration of not knowing what's up.
Hi there! As far as I can remember, you should be taught this in the Arizona map in the Campaign. You also have repair tasks in the Washington State map in the Campaign.
Problem is: If it works, everything is fine, but if it doesn't work, you don't know why and you are frustrated because you don't know how to go on. And the game is sort of overwhelming with toots and sirens and storms and sick animals and whatnot all at once hammering into your eyes and ears, if you are new to it. (And I think, it was in the Arizona map in the Campaign, that I had problems with - but watching some videos on youtube helped. But it is not a sign for good tutorial-design, if you have to watch videos of other players)
Just saying, I was able to fix everything fine a few day ago on keyboard mouse, and now spacebar while driving the ranger car in manual doesn't work and e is obviously switch from binoculars and flare, doesn't work (obviously). I haven't change those settings and have looked in the settings to find what button to press.. what's up? I'm sorry I'm just frustrated. I'm sorry I'm an idiot.. Its left click on the mouse.
