Repairing stations

I would love to know more about the repair process. It seems that systems requiring repairing are lacking in the shipyard compartment, they also don't export commodities. I've been working on Obsidian Orbital, and there are many materials that are listed at 999,999 demand.

Unfortunately these materials do not seem to follow the standard supply/demand prices, and supplying materials that are required often drops the price well below the galactic average. So how does a repair status end? Do all the required materials need to be dropped below the galactic average? Or is it a certain number of materials that must be delivered? Does the type even matter?

I lost 1.5 million the other day flying materials that were in high demand (999,999 requested). Oops, my bad for not checking the prices beforehand. However with a system like this, it seems like stations will never be repaired. What piece of the puzzle am I missing?

If you look in the stations galnet news feed, there should be a daily article listing the exact amounts need, and the percentage already delivered. The "999,999" thing is just because the commodity market can only show 6 digits, and some require several million tonnes.

The peice of the puzzle you are missing? Could be that we are not really expected to repair them, or that repairing them is a huge altruistic effort, and there is no money to be made?

Thanks I didn't realize it's in Galnet. It seems the 999,999 request is a lie. Galnet specifically says that some of the materials have been fully delivered but the commodities market shows them in high demand.

999,999 is a standard CG number. All requested imports list as 999,999 it has no bearing on the actual demand.

FWIW, if you add up the total material requirements to repair Obsidian Orbital and then divide by 640 (cos that's roughly what a long-haul Cutter can carry) it seems we only need 12,343 Cutter-loads of stuff to get the station up and running again.

Should be done by the weekend, amirite?

Probably would be done by the weekend if every source and their mother wasn't out of materials. I checked CMM composites trying to do something constructive for Obsidian Orbital. According to the station, a nearby system exports to them (which is a joke, because that station only had items in demand). Every other system is 300-400 LY away. I checked on EDDB.io and not a single station on the list can fill a cutter's hold. These include systems up to 260 ly away.

Starting to feel like I'm chasing unicorns....

Metals like Tantalum can be bought very close to the damaged stations. You can use https://eddb.io/trade/commodity to locate the sources.

Manufactured commodities like Emergency Power Cells require a bit more travel as you mention. A decent supply for those can be found in Chadwick Port at Gladutjin.

Factabulous created this excellent thread where's he tracking the stations repair totals.
