Reparing station's/ megaships

I saw a megaship out near the damaged stations that had been attacked by the Thargoids, and I thought it would be really cool if we could use repair limpets on the exterior hull of these structures to fix them. It would be an awesome site to see ten cmdr's flying around a mega ship making repairs. We probably wouldn't ever get to visually see the repairs happening, it would just get slightly more "fixed" every tick of the BGS or everyday or something. But having a new way to interact with at the very least megaships would be a good idea I think.

I hope that we can have a direct involvement with repairing stations, aside from the "station needs X to repair" cart missions I assume we will be getting once they switch from 'damaged' to 'repair' mode.

BUT... if you start implementing this, you gotta start implementing the ability to damage stations. Then you'll see the BGS implode when people shoot up stations they don't like.

Would you? You can already shutdown a station until repaired (sell Thargoid materials) and while it's occasionally used as a tool for BGS warfare it's never - even when the UA/Meta-Alloy balance was much more in favour of UAs than now - led to any significant number of stations being shut down at once.

Stations have pretty powerful weapons for firing back, too - I imagine people would get through a *lot* of rebuys in the process of significantly damaging one.

I agree with Ian Doncaster above about this. Just because you can repair a station or megaship doesn't mean you should be able to destroy one. And even if you could, good luck with that ;)
 
It would be nice if you could also bring in the required raw materials/commodities to allow the station to make the repairs themselves. I mean, I was able to bring in the materials in a Community Goal to BUILD a station, so why not have CGs to repair them (although a station that has been badly damaged once is likely to be attacked again in the future if it was repaired).

I'm sure there will be those types of missions as well. Whether it is a CG or not. There is a icon (green I think) for stations in repair, like the red for damaged stations. Once a station goes into "repair" mode, I think instead of evacuating passenger missions, the station will populate "deliver X cargo for station repairs" or something along those lines.

While I don't know how FD would measure it, they could make some type of mission for actually repairing the station. I don't think it would really be necessary, as I for one would gladly fly around a station/megaship with repair limpets for no money whatsoever, but some cmdr's won't lift a finger without being paid to do so lol.
