Repeated Crashes While in the Commodity Menu

Hello all.

After a two-month break from Elite Dangerous I jumped back in for a few marathon sessions over the holiday weekend. Prior I had been mostly trading from the mission boards and doing the occasional mission.

During these sessions, I began experiencing multiple hard crashes while in the “Commodities Market” / “Buy Commodity” sub menu. And I do mean hard crashes.
Xbox One X froze, a brief “burring” sound, black screen and X Box One X shuts off with controller light blinking. The unit would only restart by ejecting the play disk.

Has anyone else been experienced this? Is it a know issue?

I've had the exact same issue always from the commodity board. It happens pretty rarely, though. I spent 2 weeks trading to get elite and I think it only happened about 4 times to me.

Are you using Elite in 4K resolution? I play in 1080p and it has never happened to me. It's possible that playing in 4K overheats the system (due to unoptimized code causing excessive load on the hardware) and that's why the console shuts off. It does it to prevent damage by overheating usually. Or it's possible that the game crash causes the threat of overheating in the system. Crashes will probably be fixed in the January 2020 update. Until then all I can recommend is trying to play in 1080p as that might be a workaround... but please note this is just speculation on my part.

It's only ever happened to me on the commodity screen. I am running 4k but I doubt it's a graphics problem. If that were the case I would expect it to crash while the planets are being generated during a scan or during combat when chaff and lasers are flying around. I suspect that it's something specific about the commodity screen, but I'll see if it happens anywhere else.

Usually, I only hear that buzzing when something in the console is too hot, seems to be trying to keep itself from getting fried. My S and my original only do that when they get hot. Make sure your console is not in a cubby and not too close to your tv.

Afternoon and a belated Happy New Year to all.
First, my apologies for the long delay in responding to those who kindly posted assistance to the "Full System Crash" I was experiencing while in the "Buy Commodity" menu.
I am believing it was a bug and not a heat issue as this was the only area of this game where I had any crashes at all.
Also in hindsight the slight buzz I was experiancing prior to the crash appears to be the momentary pause of the background in game noise just before it was "lights out"!
It also would only happen if I kept my cursor for any length of time in the "More Info" portion of the menu that provided selling comparisons at other stations.
I am not sure if the the latest update provided a remedy but will try to recreate the issue in my next session.

I’m having the exact same issue on the series X console. It only ever happens in the exact same instances you describe (ie the commodity market buy screen). I’ve never really been into trading before but have been making a ton of money using trade loops. I was worried that the console was faulty but seeing this thread gives me hope, that it may be a game, rather than a hardware issue. I am not able to replicate the crash by doing any other activity in game. It only happens in the very specific circumstances mentioned here.

The exact same thing happens to me on an Xbox X series. There are no problems until I enter the commodity market and when you are adding or removing units, it freezes, makes a crashing noise and the console shuts down. It doesn't always happen, it's random. Another player with X series has also told me that the same thing happens to him. The problem is clearly with the game, no other game has turned my xbox off, only this one. Everyone who happens should report the error to Frontier, I did a few days ago to see if an update will correct it.

I have the same issue crashing series x while comparing commodities. Any resolution?

It only happens to me in the buy screen, immediately after I press the Buy button. It doesn't happen every time either, it seems random. I never had a problem in the 3 months or so since I started playing, but it happened to me 3 times just yesterday. Over a year since this was first reported and there's no patch yet?
