repetitive spawning @ extraction points

I think the constant stream of nothing but pirates that spawns in rings away from RESs is what got removed. RESs are still working much like they always did. If anything the spawn rate has increased a bit.

This is exactly my issue, when content becomes so unrealistic and so lacking in immersion that people just refer to 'spawns' 'instances' and 'grinding', not to mention the talk of going in and out of the same place in the hopes of spawning a better or higher bounty spawn average? How utterly immersion breaking and, frankly, like world of warcraft. Did all the bounty hunters here buy this game just to grind npcs? Or did you buy it to actually track down pirates before you claim the bounty, and write your own story!

I'm with you Beeston.. Currently I am just hanging around to see what 1.2 brings but I am not overly optimistic. There currently is so little to do that would require anyone to "team up" I don't really see any point of being in a wing at the moment.

after hundreds of bounties claimed in RES, I have never seen a pirate in anything other than a Cobra, Sidewinder or Anaconda. The odd miner that became wanted can obviously be in any ship, but pirates are always in those three for me.

I've seen pirate asps, federal dropships, eagles, vipers and I think even a python once. But variety is no excuse for grindy game design. If it is a temporary measure, then by all means devs accept my sincere apologies, but if this style of play is meant to be permanent, then it is a massive departure from what was promised...

I'm not sure it's random, I'm thinking more along the lines of them testing things.

They weren't that random before to begin with, and I'm now seeing very, very few wanted type 6 and 7s, when they used to be almost all wanted, and now pretty much every Cobra is wanted. And just this morning, tons of wanted Eagles, when Eagles used to be exclusively bounty hunters.

On that topic, I've also noticed some very weird behavior, with bounty hunting ships flying as one big group, and having the same reactions, like stopping or turning to a direction all at once. And I'm pretty sure I've seen several pirates do the same. They wouldn't be stealthily testing AI for the wings update now, would they?

Here is one such group, consisting of a bunch of Cobras, an Eagle and an Anaconda. They just flew around together in a tight formation:

If you're finding nothing but sidewinders log out and then back in. Rince and repeat until you find the spawns you want.

It doesn't make any difference what ship you're in, the spawn cycles are the same. Killing 1k sidewinders in a 300 million ship is pointless so I have keep logging off until I find the anaconda spawn cycle. This can take 30 attempts but does get there in the end.

Is it necessary to log out/in? I heard a couple of times that warping out and back in would do the trick... have done RES NPC Hunting to afford my Asp but done it mostly against Cobras. When I only had Sidewinders it seemed to me that warping out/in would generate Cobras again... maybe only lucky?

exactly, me too

They do need to change it so that you never have to reload the RES to get a different spawn. The types of pirate ships that spawn in that RES should be at least a random spread of all ships and at best be determined by the "background simulation."

The ships should be determined by the criminal faction in the system or nearby systems and how much influence they have. Also could take into consideration the security level of the system. No amount of relogging or entering the RES would change the spawn.

Examples: A low influence pirate faction in a high sec area could only spawn sideys maybe. A high influence faction in a low sec area might have a full mix of ships.

Also, the faction ships should support each other. If I shoot a wanted criminal faction ship, the other wanted ships of that faction in the immediate area should defend it and jump me.
