Replace missile experimentals with reloads.

Missiles are a rarely used weapon type. Torpedoes, in particular, are almost exclusively used for their Reverb Cascade effect. This means that they are only useful if you have the engineering for them, which means that anyone who doesn't have the engineering for them will never use them.

Since their experimental effects are so important to their functionality, what if those experimentals were removed entirely, and replaced with the ability to reload different types of ammo?

In this case, the player would choose to reload their Torpedoes with Reverb cascade, and for that reload, they would have that effect, no engineering required.

More than that, players should be able to reload individual racks with multiple types of ammo. For example, a player might load their missile rack with alternating rounds of thermal cascade, followed by drag munitions. This would allow a single missile rack to accomplish what Currently takes two, at the cost of half the ammo each.

This would also open up the possibility of different factions and powers having different missile types for sale. A supporter of Yuri Grom, for example, wouldn't necessarily need to use a power play missile rack, they could simply load the power play missiles onto a normal missile rack.

This could open the door to a lot of new missile options down the line. Niche types of missiles that currently would not be worth sacrificing an entire experimental for, but might be worth swapping in one out of 10 missiles or so. Some sort of knockback missile, for example, or high-speed, low damage missiles.

Having warhead types done by synth would be nice too- but being able to buy specific munitions would be fantastic, and perhaps a replacement for Pattys useless Power perk.

Maybe too use AFMU mechanics? So rather than buying warheads you have a module that has AFMU like ammo you spend on synthing the warheads you want at the time? The bigger the modules class, the more varieties of warhead you can make.

Having ammo boxes (imo) is better than AFMU mechanics because:
  • one can potentially collect those in the course of battle in combat zones to replenish ammo
  • being a cargo container adds weight (and affect flight model), esp. if one flies with many of them in the cargo bay
  • it contains explosives and potentially can be blown up if the attacker targets cargo bay modules
