The bonus pip for multicrew is odd. Where is the extra power coming from? It doesn't make much sense. Also, it's not very good for encouraging teamwork. Rather than needing to work together, it's best to leave it in the same place, so the pilot can become accustomed to it. Not exactly compelling gameplay.
But something that could make more sense; allow multicrew to boost a single module beyond spec, temporarily, on a cooldown.
For example:
Crew could boost fire rates, reduce reload times, increase boost speeds, increase heat sink strength or duration...all sorts of things!
First of all, this makes a lot more sense than magically summoning more power from nowhere.
But more importantly, this actually encourages teamwork! "I'm gonna use a heat sink, boost me boost me boost me!" "You're boosted go go gogogogo!" "Gunner, give me some extra firepower, boost my multicannons!" "Multicannons are boosted, fire at will!"
Sounds way more fun to me!
