Replacing Extraction Sites with Mega-ships?

With all the new functionality that has been added to Mega-ships as of 3.0, as well as their plans to expand that functionality to other in-game assets, I was wondering if FDev might consider replacing the existing, very gamey, Resource Extraction Sites with something a bit more lore-friendly? My thinking is that the existing Extraction Sites could be replaced with Mega-ships, Outposts & other CQC assets tied to the extraction & refinement of metals in Ring Systems.

It may also then be possible to make the "Extraction Sites" less of a 'shooting gallery' too.

Anyway, just something worth considering.

If you mean Resource Extraction Sites. Those are there for bounty hunters and npc pirates looking to pirate npc mining vessels. Players actually looking to 'mine' normally wouldn't go to an extraction site because they are rife with pirates.

They may not actually be there for lore. They are in there for game play though. They were designed to be the fish in a barrel.

And make people laugh...I think?

They at least make me laugh:
"No cargo! What do you do for a living?"
"Shoot pirates" or "This" as I fire on them.

They would still serve that game-play purpose, but at least there would be a reason for these sites existing the way they do. At the moment, for no logical reason at all, one spot within a planetary ring is a Super-Cruise way point. Having an asset at these locations would give a proper reason for *why* these spots are way-points. Plus, it gives potential pirates more to do in these rings too. Might also even encourage more consensual PvP.

RES mining is where it's at: High profit mining, profit from bounties, having to juggle multiple tasks... I love mining in a RES. Especially with a beefy miner smack in the middle of a HazRES.

Resource Extraction Sites are absolutely for miners. :)

Yes, but imagine if these sites also contained Mega-Ships, Outposts or other CQC assets, where miners could drop off their minerals, where pirates could try & steal it (either from the miners or from the delivery points) & where the bounty hunters could be there to intercede.

I always thought that resource extraction sites were always positioned in particularly ore-rich spots within a ring, and that mining within them would actually yield better results. Is that not the case?

It's impossible to say. I just still reckon it'd be a lot more fun if these locations had something man-made within them, to act as a focal point for activity within those locations.....like we have with Mega-ships now, in general.
