Representatives of South America

Spectacled bear is a bit different but it is also a very unique bear and in my case the standard Zoo bear.
If we get the Spectacled Bear, I hope it will come together with some animals to build mixed habitats with, like coatis e.g. In the Zoo of Cologne they are planning a habitat shared by Spectacled Bears and Bushdogs. In my opinion it would be much more fun to build exhibits that are not only for "another bear species".

Must haves:
  • Maned Wolf
  • Hoffmann's Two-Toed Sloth
  • Any howler monkey
  • Any smaller monkey (Golden Lion Tamarin, Squirrel Monkey)
Ones that I would like, but could tolerate going without:
  • Any spider monkey
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Bald Uakari
  • Coati (South American or White-Nosed)
Lower priority animals, better suited for the tail end of this game's lifespan:
  • Greater Rhea
  • Ocelot or Margay
  • Alpaca
  • Brazilian Porcupine (if we get the African Crested Porcupine first, if not, it moves up a tier)

I think aside from primates the only South American animal I desperately want is the agouti (preferably the red-rumped agouti but I'd take any, and I'd accept the mara as an alternative). This is, of course, excluding flying birds (macaws, macaws, macaws).

While I recognise some species as zoo staples internationally (spectacled bear, maned wolf, sloth), they don't generally appear in New Zealand zoos.

Must haves:
Patagonian mara
Coati (white-nosed or South American)
Maned wolf
Golden lion tamarin
Squirrel monkey

Would really like if Frontier can do it right:
Two-toed sloth

Would really like:
Greater rhea
Spectacled bear
Ocelot
Southern tamandua
Chacoan peccary
Howler monkey
Yellow-footed tortoise

Would be nice but lower priority:
Agouti
Brazilian porcupine
Chinchilla
Bush dog
Southern pudu
Guanaco/alpaca/vicuña
White-tailed deer
White-faced saki
Spider monkey
Common marmoset
Goeldi's monkey
Great curassow
Ocellated turkey

I mean, we had the aquatic pack before and then returned to regional packs, so I don't think there is necessarily any reason to worry that theyre going away yet.

I could see the idea that they might not want to call it South America Pack 2, but you could easily make a very solid "Brazil Pack"?

Maned Wolf
Three-toed sloth sp.
Armadillo sp. (9-banded or giant for my money)
Some combo of: Marmoset/Tamarin sp. / Howler Monkey sp. / Spider-monkey sp
Coati

After that there are a bunch more I'd love, but those cover the most iconic bits I feel?

The main one you'd lose out on by making it a Brazil pack rather than SA2 would be Spectacled Bear, but if there was a mountain pack down the line that would rectify that?

A lot of zoos that I have visited often have either large mixed paddocks for a variety of bigger South American animals (tapirs, capybara, giant anteater and similar) or a walkthrough mixed enclosure for smaller animals (small primates, birds and xenarthra particularly), so I have mainly chosen species kept in those sorts of displays, with some exceptions:

1. Six banded armadillo: Although not the most common zoo armadillo, they are a fairly large species that is often kept in mixed with primates; they also have the advantage of being the species kept most often in large and well-landscaped outdoor enclosures rather than smaller indoor spaces.
2. Northern helmeted curassow: While any manner of ground birds are often kept in walkthrough jungle enclosures (such as sunbittern, giant wood rail and various ducks), this is a large, endangered species that is also, here in Europe, the most commonly-kept curassow.
3. A smaller monkey: Either the Bolivian squirrel monkey or the white faced saki would be my ideal choices; both species are often kept in mixed enclosures and walkthrough exhibits, certainly here in Europe.
4. Azara's agouti: One of the more commonly-kept species of agouti, which have been mixed successfully with armadillo, the capuchin, howler, saki and squirrel monkeys, giant anteater, capybara and curassow and is kept in walkthrough enclosures.
5. Venezuelan red howler: I think it is the better-looking of the howler monkey species, has been mixed with agouti, curassow, saki and squirrel monkey (other species of howler have been successfully mixed with six banded armadillo, capybara and spectacled bear) and are housed in walkthrough exhibits in at least two zoos.
6. Maned wolf: One of the most visually-distinct canids still missing from the game that is increasingly turning up in smaller zoos as well as larger ones - they have been successfully mixed with a variety of species, most notably the giant anteater, although I am not sure I would give them a mixed-species bonus.
7. Spectacled bear: One of the most unique bears still yet to be put in the game and my personal choice for a new bear; they have been mixed with other species although, as with the wolf, I would hesitate to give any species a bonus with them.

Exhibit animal. Not so fussed on the exhibit species, as South America already has more exhibit animals than Africa, Europe and Asia combined - maybe an insect (one that actually exists in captivity, unlike the titan beetle) such as the black spot mantis, the giant violet-winged grasshopper or black beauty stick insect.

I agree with most of these lists, but if i had to make my own it would look something like:

Essentials:
- Coati (any): The most common South american habitat animal in european zoos if we dont count the lama. And they are everything that we need rn. A small, versatile and aboreal species is just something we only have in the game for asia with the red panda and binturong and oh boi if they arnt some of the most versatile ones. Also so would be good for small animal houses and our first member of their family, so pretty slam dunk amazing if you ask me

- Patagonian Mara: Another very common south american species that would represent the southern grass lands. A common free roaming animal in zoos or found in south american herbivore habitats as one of many to chare the space.

- 2 small monkeys (pigmy marmoset, lion tamarin, cottontop tamarin, emeror tamarin, squirrel monkey): i believe we need atleast two of these buggers and these 5 are not only among the most common, but also some of the most visually distinct. Idc which two they pick and these are also just examples as i would also love a uakari for example, but we need these monkeys.

- collared peccary: collared pigs that go from the northamerican deserts all the way down to the south american grasslands and super common in zoos. More needed for NA imo, but still amazing animal to have in the game

Would like to see:
- maned wolf and spectacle bear: pretty much the same reasonings for both, they are both the most distinct and the prime members on the only continent still missing their bear and canine. Also beautifull and both represent underrepresented biomes, the grass lands and the mountains to be exact. Great centerpiece animals

- sloth: who am i to argue that working sloth would be really cool, especally just as ambience or part of monkey houses or walkthroughs with the other species

- Rhea: pretty much same as the mara, just even more common but less versatile

Not needed but defently very cool:
  • tamandua
  • agouti
  • pudu
  • more monkeys
  • night monkeys
  • south american tapir

Now with the Wetlands DLC announcement we all now, there won't be a South America or Amazon Animal Pack, which was very much predicted (and in my perception with a lot of enthusiasm).

Switching the DLC pattern from continents to biomes we won't probably ever see a pack like this for Planet Zoo, which I think is a pity. My only hope is that Frontier will do many more biomes packs than it would have done continent packs and will at least include two South American animals in every DLC. The Capybara was a great choice for the Wetlands Animal Pack. We also get the Spectacled caiman, which I am not so entusiastic about, but I won't complain about it here.

What I wanna know is: Which South American animals would you like to see in the coming biomes packs? Maybe by a threat like this we can at least get some of the developer's attention on which representatives of the South American fauna we really wanna see in game.

For me in an possibly rainforest/temperate forest pack it would be the following:

For a grassland/desert pack it would be those:

I'm curious about what your picks would be!
I think the maned wolf will definitely get in at some point. It's very high on the meta wishlist.

Patagonian maras should be a very probable candidate in my opinion as well, because it is a very commonly kept zoo animal (and they are cute!).

All the others deserve a place in the game as well, I especially love pudus. But it'll really depend on Frontier's judgment. There's no way to tell.
The spectacled bear would be another bear, but it would be the first SA bear and a pretty one.
Coatis are cute and commonly kept in zoos, but not really standout animals. Same goes for maras of course.
The tamarin endangered and requested, but very small and arboreal ergo difficult to implement.
The sloth is very highly requested, but may be impossible to implement.
Howler monkeys are iconic, but who knows if they'll be chosen over other species like gibbons.
The ocelot is a lovely small cat, but perhaps the small cat slot is already filled with the lynx, and some may say we already have a 'smallish spotty cat' in the clouded leopard.
Armadillos are quintessential central and south American animals, but maybe considered too 'common' / 'boring'?
Peccaries, another swine (though technically not a swine) and so lesser priority.
Rheas may be passed over in favor of emus.
Pudus are maybe too niche and unknown.

So I don't know about them, though again I think they all deserve a spot.

If I had to pick at least 4 animals to round out the roster for South America:

  • Patagonian mara
  • Any howler monkey
  • Any coati
  • Maned wolf

I think with these four animals, South America has its bare minimum of habitat animals.

South American animals I would consider missing

Must haves:
Spectacled bear
Maned Wolf
Ring tailed Coati
Bushdog
Sloth (any)
Ocelot
The Chins;

any but maybe the Viscacha:

viscacha 2.jpg

Would be nice:
Armadillo (any), Macaws (any!), Tamarins (any, many or all), Marmosets (any, many or all), Black Howler Monkey, Patagonian Mara, Kodkod, Chilean and/or Andean Flamingo, Blue Poison Dart Frog, More Iguanas / Snakes / Frogs found here and the Flightless Cormorant & Marine Iguana from the Galapagos

Wouldn't say no...
Agouti, Tamandua, Other small monkeys, Alpaca / Vicuna

South America is my favourite continent for animals so I will be always happy to recieve more. From the 2 we got in the base game, we have came a long way, but I think the continent has still alot to offer:

Maned Wolf - very high on meta-wishlist and a representative of canids for SA.
Spectacled Bear - just as the above, SA doesnt have its bear yet.
Roseate Spoonbill/American Flamingo likewise, SA still does not have any bird species (capable of not being kept in aviaries).
Two-Toed Sloth - iconic, three toed is probably more popular, but this one is more commonly kept.
At least 2 more species of monkeys !!! - My choices would be a Howler Monkey, Saki Monkey, Squirrel Monkey or Golden Lion Tamarins.
Coati species - great filler species
Emerald Tree Boa as an exhibit - very iconic snake, awesome colours.

Other species I would not say no to:
Tamandua
Ocelot
Patagonian Mara
Bald Uakari
Bush Dog
