CQC Reputation at stake ;)

Hi all :)
The question: how I can defend myself from accusations of cheating?
The lesson: With lags you're screwed - if you keep playing you can be seen as cheater if you exit the game you are combat logger...

I've had massive lags in few CQC matches on Thursday's evening. But keep playing in hope that situation will come to normal. It did. But to late for me it seems ;)
But since then I could not log in to CQC. Today I was informed by one of friends of mine from squadron that I was probably reported and he gave me a link to yt video:
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ifa3bVdXfmo

It explains a lot. As you can see my shields do not drop when the guy fires at me. For me the guy was jumping all over the place and had hard time in actually hitting him.
Comments are turned off, can't also message him on yt so can't explain myself.

The last time I actually cheated in any game was Doom 2 with IDDQD code ;)

I have no regret to cmdr who reported me. I was stunned by reaction of Frontier. There are real cheaters flying around with no problems and they are swift in banning wrong people.
I lead PvP wing of The Winged Hussars. I cooperate with Lavigny's Legion in PP. I play the game for a long time now. I have friends and foes along other commanders. Never escaped a fight and never cheated.
Another thing is that I was wondering yesterday why I can't see anyone on CG and I think now that ban is also active in main game.
I ticketed Frontier about it and we will see where it will go.

The link to the vid is already around discord and twitch servers and this is more important problem for me as PvP player than ban because it hurts my reputation and this is the only place where I can defend myself.

So, I wish you all no lags with paranoic comdr around ;)

I guess the question is, can we attribute all that we're seeing to just lag?

Ive seen CMDRs lag before, but never to that degree. You're not moving for quite some time. That looks more like when a server goes down and you witness people just running in place or something.

Furthermore, he suggested in his comment that you were shooting him at 4km away, which prompted him to start recording.

Not saying you're guilty just saying these are the things that are questionable. My advice to you wait it out with frontier support. If you're within the EU maybe gently remind them that you are entitled to know any and all information they have on you by law.

I've noticed this mention about 4 kms (which is also strange as I use burst lasers, so no point in firing them from more than 1 km). When I was said I was reported I was like "are you kidding me?". But when I've seen the video I understand that it could look like cheats so I have no hard feelings towards the cmdr who reported me. I am angry with Frontier who did not even bother to contact me, ask for logs or anything. The second main point is that there is no good way to solve the situation when you get lags and engaged in PvP situation. If you stay, you can be reported for cheats, if you leave, you can be reported for combat logging. This is very rare situation - for me this was first time when I've had so massive lags. I was not playing alone but few other cmdrs from my squadron were present and I was complaining to them and asking if they also experience lags - they did not. There was even a match when there were only three of us (from the same squadron) and other player (Blastard) joined. Two others could see him and I could not. What I've seen was only power-ups disappearing when he flew through them.
My mistake was to keep playing and waiting for lag to disappear, but, again, exiting in the middle of the match is combat logging.
I reported the situation yesterday, but this is weekend, so I don't know if I get my answer during promised 48 hours.
This thread is also to show you how easy is to mistake cheating with technical issues but Frontier should see the difference.

Edit: I was also been killed a lot of times during this session in "funny" way: flying around with other player thinking "he can't hit me? Strange…" and suddenly loosing all shields and hull and exploded ;)

I witnessed similar thing with other player ONCE. There was only me and one other player in the game. He was a low rank player.

On his end the game must have been perfectly normal, he could see me where I was, target me, shoot at me.

On my end he was showing as not moving (only shooting his lasers), sitting in the spot where he spawned, when I was shooting at him I was not doing any damage.

It was like fighting a ghost. But when I was evasive and using chaffs i was able to avoid his invisivbe attacks until the end of the match.

When a new match started everything was back to normal, he was showing on my screen and I was able to kill him again.

In the video you posted you are clearly sitting in one of the spawn points of that map. You were treated really harshly, mate.

Haven't seen this in CQC yet, but I have seen things like it at least a half a dozen times in the main game. Such desyncs are not especially rare.

answer from Frontier:
"Thank you for contacting us at Frontier, Having taken a look into the original report it appeared even to us that the actions being shown by yourself in the video clearly align to a known method of cheating that we are taking action on which is why this ban was applied so swiftly opposed to a warning applied. We take action with regards to cheating very seriously but are not opposed to appeals from players! :) Given that the action here seemed to be a simple misunderstanding with regards to your network connection I have gone ahead and reverted the ban on your account meaning that you should now be able to log back in and pick up where you left off! :D Hopefully, this helped to resolve/provide clarification regarding your matter however if you still have any questions or issues please do not hesitate to contact us as we are always happy to help if we can"

I have also made some tests yesterday because ban was also on main game. And it turned out that "shadow ban" is not only separation from other players (could not see anyone in open, even people from my own squadron) but also BGS does not work - my actions did not have any influence on BGS, also CG does not work: sold stuff did not count toward CG objective. So, I assume, it is technically possible what many Power Play players want: turning off PP in Solo mode :) Just FYI ;)

Congrats on the unban!

Sorry it took a while to figure out but I'm glad you are back and able to enjoy Elite again.

I wonder if the "known method of cheating" they are refering to is lag switching.

I faced you in combat and didn't noticed anything that would be like a cheating, Frontier acting in pvp balancing and it seems also countering cheating is worse than doing nothing:)

Nice to have it sorted out.

but,

if you leave, you can be reported for combat logging.

Seriously? I think this is pushing it just too far

Never played CQC, so genuine questions:
There is no Quit to Menu?
No way to tell the rest of the participants "Sry, lagging badly - have to leave"?

You just leave between games.

There's a quit to menu option, yes.

You can't communicate with anyone except your own team through in-game comms. Or between-match comms, for that matter.

On the other hand, as quitting mid-match loses you the points you'd earned so far and would have got in match-end bonuses, no-one's really going to care - especially not if you're lagging and rubber-banding so much they can't hit you anyway ... they'll just assume the potato in your network connection got fried.
