Reputation Effect misleading.

Been doing some Empire Rank grinding.

The advice I found on youtube says go for Charity missions. Sure enough says High Effect on Reputation.
Except I did two and managed to raise my rep by 1%!?!

Compared to a Classified Data Transportation, which gave me a 4% increase, that states a Medium Effect on Rep.

Is FD going to change these misleading missions? Or will people have to find out from others?

I found out about the Classifieds by a passer by in-game.

That is indeed very misleading. Are you sure?

By the way I always go for the high rep missions, but I never get a 1% for just one mission.
I need to do several to get 1 or 2 % rep increase.

I used to do Assassinations, Kill Pirates and other combat, and at the time they would give up to 3%. That's been nurfed, only 1% recently.

Classifieds give from 0-5% depending on how far away the mission leads you. This I have observed multiple times.
But there are those Classifieds which deliver to a non-empire faction that seem to give a 1% rise not matter what.

Also wondering how much he donated, the amount of cash you give is a major factor. Classified data runs always worked best for me, and it beats mode switching for charity missions.

Classified data runs are what I'm doing. Most are 1% but still getting some 4% and I'm Marquis.

I think, but I could be wrong, that the effect on reputation is with the local faction and has nothing to do with how much your Empire rank increases. What I have noticed is the further I have to travel to smuggle data the more % my rank goes up by.

I've also notice my Federation rank has increased, I guess some of the confidential data has gone from an Empire faction to Federation faction. Well either that or I've screwed up on some of the missions!

Have you also compared your ranks?

Higher ranks need waaaaaaaaaay more reputation than the lower.

Please elaborate.

This is exactly how I'm doing it, I to am at Marquis.

Oh so close now.

You need way more reputation from Prince to King than for Outsider to Serf.

So if the player you talked to had a way lower rank than you, it's possible that he's earning more progression with a medium rep mission than you're with a high rep mission.

There is too few information in the OP to say that the indicators are 'misleading'. Charity missions depend on cash, too, like 777Driver already said.

He said he was getting 2-5% increases doing classifieds. Decided to give them a go. I have had one 5%, plethora of 2%, the odd sprinkling of 4% and a meandering 3% every so often.

I still do Donates but even donating 20k+ still rises a paltry 1%.

Not sure how the rank affects any of this.

All I noticed was the further away I went for a Classified, I received a higher increase. The 5% came from a mission where I had to travel 40Ly.

Ones that are 20-30Ly's away tend to be 2-3%ers.

I have a system which I travel to to rank up. There are 4-5 missions each run (sometimes even more) that has the same objective: Installation. Doing a complete circle gives me like 8% or something. I always combine it with Escape Pods missions and charity ofc.
Ranked Knight with Empire.

Charity missions take a few seconds to complete. Don't be disappointed by a small benefit per mission, think of how little time you spend on them.

If you've got Horizons, try missions of mercy (rescue escape pods on the surface). They're good, though they do take a bit of time. Sometimes you get lucky and find multiple pods. And with some luck, there will be another mission that can use the excess when you return.

I think it's not so much misleading as it impossible to gauge without a measuring stick. In the same way that the ship buying screen doesn't really convey any useful information when the arbitrary numbers that have been assigned to ship stats don't really line up with any one specific measure.

I feel that the rep not scaling with rank can also give a false measure on how significant your contributions are. When I was Baron, every mission was adding 1-2% to my rep, but at Earl, two or three missions barely add up to 1%. The difference from one rank to the next at higher levels can mean 2-4x more work to achieve the same percentage.

I don't mind taking charity missions, if there's an Empire allied one going I'll take it but I'm not going to sit there mode swapping just to pick them up. I've got a good source of data smuggling missions and as I delivery I often pick up more.

More importantly (to me anyway) I'm actually play the game, flying a ship, having to fight off other ships and boost into stations with Silent Running on. It's fun.
