Hardware & Technical Req. advice - older gear, ED on 3 screen setup (modest)

I’m just doing some forward planning at this stage and am looking for some opinion on this.

I have some older gear I was hoping to use in a 3-screen config (main with two smaller side screens) but I can’t test it as it’s all in storage right now; it’s is a Core i7-2600k, z68 chipset and 16gig of PC3-17000 ram. It has a 3gig Gigabyte Radeon 7970-OC video card; it’s running from a 480gig SSD drive. OS is Windows 7 Pro.

The primary will be either a 24” 1920x1080 or 24" 1920x1200 with this (I have both but I’m not sure which one I’ll go with long term for this box). I was considering putting left and right 19’s (4:3 ratio) on but I wasn’t sure if the game would exceed the spec of this gear now; it was high end but it’s 2 years old.

I’m aware that they’ve done optimisation closer to release so later builds may do better here – does it look like I could run ED with this config without any problems (3 screen) or would this over-tax the system?

FWIW I've never run a game in multi-screen in this manner before so I have no experience here to go on; I ask now as I am planning/designing my setup (tables, monitor arms, cabling, etc.).

Yes it should run pretty decently. My 7850 OC 1GB runs the game on 5280x1000 resolution pretty well (30 fps on medium in asteroids). You might need to drop shadows down a bit but you can expect 40 fps at least I'd think.

*wow* - you're running -that- resolution on a 1gig card at 30fps? I had no idea that would work so well, that's extraordinary. What is your monitor configuration out of curiosity? Also what is your CPU/system configuration to support that? I'm hoping to be able to run this system for a while, I'll probably do an upgrade around mid next year if I find genuine bottle-necking.
