[Request] Auto Disabling Modules That Are Out Of Ammo

Maybe you know the problem. You have your ship equipped in a certain way, accepting that you will exceed your power limit on deployment of your hardpoints. Now that's usually not a big problem since you can fiddle around with your module priorities until you have the systems you'll need during combat online while deactivating unnecessary modules like FSD Drive and Interdictor by assigning them with a lower priority. So far so good.

However there are modules which you will need powered as long as they are still loaded, like chaff launchers or shield cell banks. You can even stack several of those modules and here comes the trick:

Here is how it currently works:

Suppose you have three or more shield cell banks which each are consuming quite a lot of power from the grid. By assigning them different priorities (SCB#1=Prio 1, SCB#2,3 and 4 = Prio 5) you can achieve that only one of them is online at a time, the rest being inactive. Now when I have used up all charges of SCB #1 I have to go to my modules panel and reassign priorities to deactivate the empty one and activate the next one.

Here is how I think it should work:

I think this should not be necessary. Modules that have run out ouf charges should automatically be taken offline (or get priority 5). That way the SCB with the next higher priority would take over until it also runs out of charges, rince repeat. The same goes for the chaff launcher and for missile/torpedo bays. When out of ammo, they should automatically be disabled thus freeing up grid power for other systems.

There could be an additional checkbox in the functions tab of the right panel like "Auto-disable Modules w/o charge" on/off

What do you think? I'm looking forward to your comments and ideas!

Regards
Argyris

Something else just came to my mind: There could be an additional checkbox in the functions tab of the right panel like "Auto-disable Modules w/o charge" on/off

Something is weird here: I added my last post today (24/03/2015) but the forum time stamp somehow shows last post added at 21/03/2015 hence the thread went to page 3 :(

Seems a bit over complicated and micro-managy to me. Don't need everything done automatically nor need to manage everything to that degree - if you want to turn a module off you can, whether it's out of ammo/supply or not, no real need for any automation.

The idea is actually meant to reduce the need for micromanagement. You would have to set the module priorities only once and check the button in the functions tab. Once that's done you can enjoy your spare power grid energy.

P.S. I have edited the OP to make things a bit more clear (I hope)

Yep, but you really shouldn't need to be micro managing your energy that closely in the first place, not to the extent nor time frame requirement that you need a system to automatically power down when out of ammo as opposed to just turning it off yourself when you want/'need' to.

If you make more and more things automatic, it sort of takes away the whole point of having the ability to turn things on/off in the first place and dumbs it down.
